shrinking in old age

I often think I’m not overweight, just under-tall (currently 5ft 5ins) 🤔

I find this most annoying. I used to be 5ft 5 but now I am 5ft 3 and have difficulty reaching some of the shelves in my kitchen cupboards.

I'm another. I was 5ft 4.5 inches. I am now 5ft 2in. It means instead of being a whisker taller than DD I am now several inches shorter - and she won't let me forget it!

I was always the tallest out of five sisters 5ft 6. The nurse told me last year I was 5ft 4.5. My daughter said last week that I have shrunk even more my whole body height and weight!

My niece says I will soon have to shop in the children's section
my skirts and trousers are getting longer.

And I wonder if the supermarket CEO's are aware that stacking upper shelves high and even higher puts several lines of items out of reach of the likes of moi - 4ft 11ins.

I know someone will say "well ask staff to reach for it for you!", but can you find a suitably tall member of staff when you need one?

And it's not merely a rare occasion - it's fairly regular. How high can these shelves get?

I certainly hope that I don't/have not shrunk with age as I am only 4ft 11 inches to start off with!

My height has reduced too. It is a real downside that the top level of the healthy weight band is now 9 stone eight, not 10 stone one as before. It ‘a still the same me but I need to lose half a stone to be healthy weight just because my spine is more compact!

I googled it ..it says when you reach 40 years you start to lose 1/2 inch every decade

And I'll need to lose more than a stone...

In my late 70s, I have only lost an inch but a friend of mine poor lady has osteoporosis and has las lost several inches.
Occasionally people still ask me if I can pass something down from a higher shelf in a supermarket.

My daughter is a petite 5’1 and I used to feel and appear a lot taller than her at 5.41/2 but I have noticed in recent years that I am not that much taller than her - I’m guessing I have lost a good inch. My husband used to be 5’6 but was measured at 5’4 earlier this year. My mother has osteoporosis and used to be 5’1 1/2 but at her last measurement she was barely reaching 4’10.

I'm 3 inches shorter than I was at 50.

I just ask any nearby shopper who looks tall enough to reach items on high shelves. They always oblige!

I used to be 5ft 2 1/2 and am now 5ft 1. I'm 67. My lovely lady GP is about 4ft 10, so I feel quite tall when I see her.

I was 5ft 7.5ins. I’m now barely 5ft 4ins following 3 spinal surgeries and arthritis in my spine.

I recently saw an old photo of my daughter and myself.
I was at least 2” taller.
Now, I am 2” shorter than her.😫

I’m 5 inches down, apparently because of osteopenia, and was blaming Marks and Spencer for making their regular trousers much longer than before! I had no idea shrinking was a thing.
