Dry flaky scalp

I used to have this problem but it cleared up when I started using SLS free shampoo. There are quite a few of them around now. I use OGX or Aveeno.

I second Aveeno, I use the scalp soothing version. It’s not the cheapest, but it’s excellent, it suits my hair too, and it lasts for ages.

I have the opposite problem - oily scalp, oily hair …..

Meant to say, greasy hair 😂

Nizoral works well.

I also stopped using shampoos with sulphates - my favourites now are Maui lightweight moisture shampoo or Aveeno.

I also oil my scalp (Jojoba oil) about an hour before shampooing, and massage it into my scalp. I usually wash my hair about every 4 days, if I leave it till day 5 my scalp starts to itch because it is getting dry.

It sounds like seborrheic dermatitis. In which case you must keep on top of it: wash your hair every day.
It is a yeast infection so it’s growing all the time.
Some suffers have to wash their hair 3 times a day.
That’s why I say you have to get on top of it.
In babies it’s cradle cap.

I eventually went to my GP with this problem, every shampoo had I tried was unsuccessful. He prescribed
Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo. It has made a huge difference ! Smells strongly of coal tar when washing hair but smell not detectable when hair has dried. Your GP may prescribe - worth a visit to
him/her. Failing that it is available on Amazon at a reasonable price. It is in a beige plastic bottle and had a dark brown cap. Good luck! ( I only use a small amount )

I think that we've been asked this before on Gransnet .
I've used this method on cradle cap and on adults.
Soak some cotton wool pads in warm olive oil .
Rub onto the scalp .
Leave for a few minutes.
Then shampoo off with Vosene .
On a baby I dilute it with baby shampoo about half /half ratio .
Leave the last application on for a few minutes.
Rinse off well .
On cradle cap - the dried scalp tissue came off in one piece revealing a sore pink scalp beneath .

There's also a conditioner, a serum which is great for a build-up around the hairline and a cream you can massage into your scalp.

Brilliant stuff - far better and far gentler than anything I've ever used before.

Like shelflife I use Capasal. I have psoriasis and it keeps my scalp from flaking and itching.
Although you can get it on prescription I just buy it over the counter at a pharmacy. After all, the rest of you have to buy your own shampoo don’t you?
It’s quite pricey but lasts ages, you only need a small amount.

I agree. My GP diagnosed seborrhric dermatitis , it had spread to behind my ears,! Capasal has worked for me. I have bought this from Amazon. Well worth trying !
