HPV positive and colposcopy

I had one years ago - just the same sort of thing as a smear, then a little ‘pinch’ as a sample is snipped out for the biopsy. Not exactly painful, but I’m a ‘bleeder’ and needed a pad afterwards.

I’ve had a few colposcopes ( spelling ?) and found no discomfort. I didn’t need anything snipped, just to get a smear as my cervix is not in the usual position hence the difficulty.

I’d had 2 years of painful attempts with local GP nurse trying to get a smear taken. Finally getting to the hospital clinic was the answer. I don’t know why the local nurse waited so long and it was me pointing out the repeated unsuccessful attempts and questioning it that made them send me to the clinic.

I totally understand the anxiety of having to have a colposcopy after 2 years of being HPV positive! I’ve been there: the doctor uses a small, hose-like device to get a good look at your cervix, and can then take a small (pinch) sample for a biopsy. It doesn’t hurt much, just a quick sting and then you’re fine – you just need a small bandage. The fact that you haven’t seen any abnormal cells is great news, but it’s important to get checked out, especially if it’s been going on for a while. I find it helpful to carry a small bag with a warm towel or gel to help you relax after you’re out. Good luck with geometry dash spam !
