Osteoarthritis hand part II

I have seen an orthopaedic surgeon who has suggested that joint replacement in my hand might be an option, to relieve pain. I’ve not heard of this and wonder if anyone has any experience and how long it might take to resume normal activities?

There’s a Facebook page devoted to this ( I can’t remember its name, I’ll try to look it up). Both of my thumb joints have got arthritis, one far worse than the other but I seem to be able to manage it by wearing gloves, doing exercises and using various gels.
