Just to add I have been having palpitations and some breathlessness .but I have to have a phone consultation first
Ring at 8am monday.

If you get an appointment with the GP they will do a blood test which will include a cholesterol check I'm sure .

I went to my surgery in December and asked if I could get one of these checks. Was told by the receptionist when she checked that they don’t offer them. She didn’t ask my age. I’m 65. I had the same issues as you and was offered a GP appointment and follow up tests. I would go back and pursue it if I were you.

I was told that if I wanted one, I’d have to ask. As I didn’t take anything on prescription, so fell below their radar.

I haven't had a blood pressure or cholesterol check since well before the pandemic .
Maybe they hope we will all for off a and save the nhs some.money
I would have thought it was even more important for older people

A friend of mines brother went to the Drs with a bad sudden pain in his back.he was just given painkillers.he died a few days later of heart attack.the Dr didn't even check his blood pressure.
She is one of our Drs.It was on the front page of our local paper.She is still at my surgery

My friend said she had phoned GP about a mammogram and they said you don't get them once you reach 75 years old.

Our Surgery hasn’t done these for over 10 years.
Was told to make an appointment if anything was worrying me.

I'm pretty routine mammograms stop at 70, but your friend should be offered one if she asks.

In the last few months I have had several phone calls from GPs, a different person every time - none of whom I have ever met. One was worrying about whether I might be pre diabetic, another thought I might want a diet plan (no thank you. At my age I know what foods are bad for me and it still doesn't stop me eating them) Another wanted to take diuretics daily and the latest one one wanted a blood test. I had the blood test but no word about the results. Yesterday I had a text asking for a blood pressure reading. I sent it back and was told I'll get a reaction to it eventually. Fortunately I see a consultant next week about my stay in hospital and I might get some joined up information from her.

Anybody between 40 and 74 who isn't already being treated for a range of chronic conditions is entitled to an NHS health check.

Our chemist is as bad.My son has morphine patches for a back injury and rang the Drs yesterday to ask why they hadn't been sent.Surgery said they were issued on the 6th of January.
I called in twice and chemist said there was no prescription for him.suddenly after asking again today they found them dated 6th of January
Drs wouldn't issue anymore as they are a controlled drug so He would have had to wait another month
Absolutely disgusting.it's not the first time this has happened with prescriptions
I think the Dr thought he was trying to get extrs.
We have let them know what happened.

I am 78 and have COPD.Last timeI was seen by a GP or practice nurse or a routine check was just before the pandemic nearly 3 years ago.In the mean time I have had three emergency admissions to hospital,two for bad flare ups of COPD and one for Pulmonary Embolism.

Veejay my surgery texted me 3 months after my 70th birthday to say I was now eligible for a 'Free NHS Health Check' to assess my risk of developing heart/kidney disease, stroke or diabetes. It was thorough but had tick box overtones, so no discussions about my concerns unless they fitted into those 4 issues.

Veejay. how long have you had those symptoms ?
they should certainly be looked into.

My husband went for his annual "well man" check up last January and passed with flying colours. Cholesterol, blood pressure, weight etc fine.
Six weeks later he died in his sleep.
I had my invite to go for my MOT a couple of months ago. I'm not bothering.

I recently had a text inviting me to book a nhs health check. I am going in a couple of weeks, and am making a list of ailments and niggles to take with me. I am 71. I understand it will be a nurse doing the check.

I presume GPs get paid specifically to do certain check and not others. There seems to be money in the system to do checks for diabetes. My husband has been diabetic for about 20 years and it is well managed by him, with an annual GP check, but he is currently in hospital for heart problems and the consultant said his conditions needed to be reviewed by specialists, as the basic annual checks are not sufficient. It seems you have to have a medical emergency for anything to happen.

Also meant to say it it ISN'T the first time this has happened with prescriptions.

I won't go over it all again as said in another thread .but now will need a mobility scooter for 2compound fractures
Which have healed wrong.kept being told it was muscular
