Erythromycin - side effects

DH was started on Amoxicillin for a chest infection. Came out in a rash, started on Clarithromycin (hiccups, indigestion) finally Erythromycin. Left with terrible indigestion/belching etc. I think its one of the side effects. Anyone had anything similar and did it last long after finishing the course. Doc did give him Lanzoprazole for two weeks (already on it in the morning).

Yes it's quite common to affect your digestive system. I am allergic to penicillin so have to take it and you are always advised to use a probiotic when on it.

Most antibiotics play havoc with my digestive system. I’m now prescribed Doxycycline for chest infections and I’m fine with them. Maybe ask GP?

I’m allergic to penicillin so can’t have amoxicillin I too came out in rash and bumps? Erythromycin is my go to antibiotic no probs with that at all, I’m on omperazole, each morning, I’ve not had that happen but I’ve had stomach upset

My daughter had bad side effects from Erythromycin years ago as a teenager. She was extremely sick. GP said it was a common reaction to that particular antibiotic. She now has it on her medical records, not to prescribe Erythromycin.

Erythromycin caused me severe stomach pains which eventually led me to vomit blood. Be very careful with it or ask for an alternative. There are quite a few available.

My DS can't take Erythromycin makes him vomit. It's on his medical records.
