Any advice about teeth

If you need implants then take a holiday in Portugal where they are only £300 (ish). I don't know why private dental care is so expensive in this country.

Be careful about dental work abroad. If it goes wrong, you're stuck. But also a friend had some crowns done abroad and they are ridiculously dazzling "Katie Price white" and he has been teased about them ever since.

My friend had her teeth done in Turkey. She was offered a selection of what white she wanted.
Her 3 month check up was done in London, all included in the price.

Oh do what you can for your teeth. I really, really wish mine were good and that my dental care had been better in my childhood.

Be very careful whatever you decide. I chose implants and the dentist sold the practice during lockdown to a less experienced chap. Now I must wait for him to complete his training before I can finish the procedure. Dentures must suffice in the meantime. It's been two years since the metal posts were put in and as you can imagine I'm right fed up. It takes time, money and commitment - and isn't a magic wand.

I have also had two teeth break in the last two weeks. One right at the back I will leave fir now as it’s not bothering me, the front tooth was repaired this week it was quick and easy and cost £62 NHS.
Implants can cost a lot more than £2000, be careful.

Change your dentist. Mine would either build up a broken tooth or suggest a crown.

If the tooth breaks to the extent of exposing the root, you risk a nasty infection and root canal treatment, which is nobody's idea of fun.

I wouldn’t go abroad for treatment. My dentist will be getting a phone call on monday and just hope they can do something with it. Implants are so expensive and will have to be a last resort.

Yes. Ask about a crown. If it is a back tooth consider gold. Dentist said would not show and stronger. Front ones a shade of white of course.

Two crowns together need replaced. Can not face the thought of implants even if they were free so getting a bridge, something I said I would never do. If they were at the back I would just leave the gap. They don't have wire any longer which is good. I'll just have to cope.?

I recently had 4 false teeth to replace back teeth. I was worried my jaw would not be supported and my face would drop.

Definitely enquire about crowns. I have them on 2 back teeth that had crumbled away and am very happy with them. Root has to be sound though.

I had a very bad infection in a back tooth that no one thought could be saved. I had a root canal filling done by a very expensive but highly recommended private dentist then had a gold crown over it via my NHS dentist. I can still remember him putting what smelled like bleach onto it to sterilise it. Did the trick, though.

I have been having trouble with my teeth for a few months the bottom ones have chipped and crumbled. I am trying to pluck up the courage to go the dentist. I know a few friends have had replacement false teeth not full sets. On the NHS cheaper than implants and they are happy with them. It's what I will choose when I get the bottle to go.

Thank you for all of your great advice. I am going to have to phone the dentist up tomorrow as I think both teeth are just crumbling away. I don’t know what causes this.

Purplepixie I think there are many causes for our teeth to crumble and break. Poor dental care, inadequate brushing grinding of teeth being three. Also lacking vitamin D but I doubt if any of us lack it so much for it to be the main cause.

Well good luck to those of you who seem to think that it may be easy to get an appointment. With an NHS dentist anyway.
They still seem to be working very slowly here.
DH had 2 teeth out recently after a very long time of putting up with the problems the OP seems to have had.
He goes for his first implant appointment next week ( he’s had the x-rays to check his bone density) it will cost £5,200?.
As I had 4 done a couple of years ago after years of problems with crowns I can’t really object!
So at least I’ll go to my grave with 4teeth and he’ll have 2!
BTW part from the cost it was very easy.

I would never go abroad to get implants or anything to do with teeth done, what if you have a problem. I’m a coward with teeth, I have always had lovely teeth, my children have to. Just a couple if fillings. However the last two years nothing but problems, I have lost four teeth, I feel embarrassed to laugh. They are not at the front, but if I was to really laugh you could see they were missing, so I put my hand over my mouth a lot and it’s affected my confidence. I’ve thought of implants, but the cost and the pain puts me off, if I lose anymore I will have to have a partial denture or a couple of implants.I hate getting older I think it’s that as you age gums recede however much you look after them or how good they have always been.

I had periodontal disease and lost a lot of teeth. I had dental treatment in London and Hungary. A third of the price in the UK for implants which perform like natural teeth ie you can eat anything and smile without worry. It took a year in total and was stressful temporarily having dentures but the result is amazing. You choose the colour of the implants. I was advised to go for a natural white. As for going abroad the treatment and facilities in Hungary are state of the art.

Teeth are so important aren’t they? My daughter had a broken one fixed once. She was playing basketball, and got knocked over. She was 10 at the time, and the dentist said it would just be temporary.

Wind on 20 years...she still has it! She had a brace fitted soon after and it still stayed intact.

She’s always said it’ll probably fall off on her wedding day....just before the photos.

Let’s hope she can get past November this year!

I wouldn’t go abroad either. If your health is otherwise good, could you invest in implants if all else fails? Could be worth it.
