Vertigo

Have you tried the exercises ? They worked for me when I had an attack ( first one) last month.
My Dr believes in the exercises.
I have to say my GP was brilliant. Did an ecg, sent me to the hospital for blood test and heart monitor all in 24 hrs.
Then ordered an MRI. Which was done a couple of a couple of weeks ago.
The treatment I received was amazing. I just wished that the bedside manner could have been kinder.

As I said earlier, I’ve had labrynthitis in the past, and I could barely walk down the stairs.
It felt like you were on a boat, or your head was full of water.
Very, very strange. It’s to do with your inner ear.

My mom developed vertigo due to an undiagnosed ear infection. Once the infection was treated with antibiotics the vertigo went but left her with tinnitus and eventually she went deaf in that ear .

Have your ears been checked?

I am just getting over a bout of something. The first sign last Thursday evening was dizziness, swiftly followed by sickness and diarrhoea. When that was over, after about 14 hours, I still had the dizziness, and am still needing to go steady today.
I have had tinnitus for about three years, and recently some wax in my ears, so I don’t know if there is a connection. It is so hard to get a GP appointment here, I guess I will be better before I can get one.
Just so thankful to be retired, otherwise I would have pushed myself to get back to work this morning. After less than an hour of light household chores I need to sit down to get my energy back.

Cabbie21 hope you are feeling better! I did see the doctor who said my vertigo could be viral. I’m feeling better today

I had sudden onset dizziness two weeks ago. It came on overnight. No sickness though. It wasn't as bad as when I had full blown labyrinthitis but was quite scary at times if I moved my head in a change of direction. Even turning over in bed was horrible. It's slightly better now or I've got used to it. I gather there's a virus causing this going about but that could be an urban myth!

The Epley manoeuvre works well. You can google it. Also, antihistamines every day help prevent it, but check with your doctor first, in case there’s any medication you take which might clash.

Of course, if it’s labyrinthitis...you’ll have to wait until you’re better. It’s horrible isn’t it?

DH was shown how to do the Epley manoeuvre correctly on me, I suffer from BPPV, done incorrectly it can cause problems.
But before diagnosis checks were made to make sure I didn’t have a brain tumour etc. so a GP/Consultants appointment ideally should be made.

Getting a GP appointment is a nightmare at my local health centre. You have to ring up at 8 am, if you can get through. If you are lucky you might be offered a telephone appointment the following week. No wonder A&E is so busy.

Just noticed today that my episodes of dizziness have stopped. It must have been a virus. Phew. I've heard of quite a few people who had this. Glad to be back to (ab)normal!

I have mentioned this in the past but there is an injection the dr can give which almost immediately stops the spinning.

I had the result of my MRI a couple of weeks ago.
I asked the consultant why I had all those tests done for what I thought was virtigo.
She said: because when I presented at the surgery i was spinning, not the room so that indicated that there could be mass on my brain. That was the difference.

Hope the mri result was clear Meryl. Thanks for the info about vertigo. Mine has always been the room spinning, sigh of relief.

My best friend has just had 6 weeks of lightheadedness on one occasion she went down in a heap but not unconscious she has had sickness once a day or every other day She hasn’t wanted to eat or go out
All the doctors tests and ideas have come to nothing She has just had a scan and awaiting the results The doctor has checked all her tablets and ears etc and finding it a mystery After six weeks it seems to be correcting itself and maybe will remain a mystery

Gosh that must have been so scary MerylStreep. Glad all was well. I wasn't spinning myself.
Oddly and sadly we had a little cat who suddenly began to have to turn round compulsively. It was awful. The wee thing was so distressed as she spun round continuously. The vet said it was something that sometimes happened to that breed. She was a Birman. We agreed to put her out of her misery. I still miss her. It was an awful thing to suddenly happen. Sorry. Didn't mean to derail.

The only scary part was the MRI as I’m terrible claustrophobic.
But I was very lucky that the senior radiologist was my friends daughter who kept my spirits up for the 25mins in the “machine”

I was dizzy and the doc gave me a weeks course of tablets for Vertigo she said it should go away in about 3 days but take all the pills. It did go about 4 days later havent had it again. Its not nice being dizzy.
