Compression socks/stockings

Compression socks that are made to measure like your DH’s shouldn’t be worn by someone else. They are likely to do more harm than good if they don’t fit correctly. It is possible to get a device to help put them on. A practice nurse or pharmacist may be a good place to start.

I wasn’t planning on wearing them. Just tried to see if I could get them on which I couldn’t! I wanted to see if a bit of compression helped with the aching before I spoke to someone at the surgery.

I've just stopped wearing mine after my op. They were very difficult to put on and DH usually helped. However, I discovered that my device for putting socks on (post hip replacement) worked very well and I could put the compression socks using that.
I got it from Amazon. Could be worth trying?

I’ve seen those devices. They remind me of something but I’m not sure what! Probably the metal framework inside lamp shades. I’ve also seen some socks that have a zip up the side which reminds me of when I tried some boots on in a shop once and they had to call the manager to unzip me.

Oh, that looks different to the ones I’ve seen. But you still have to get the sock on your foot to start it off. I’m beginning to feel like one of the ugly sisters in Cinderella trying to squeeze into the glass slipper.

No you don't. You put the sock on the device, place or drop the device on the ground while keeping hold of the tapes, insert your toes then pull the tapes up. The sock moves smoothly on to your feet and the device pulls free out if the top of the socks.
I couldn't believe how well it works.

The outside of it is sort of fuzzy and the inside is satin smooth.

Your doctor can give you a prescription to get compression socks. Probably also for the device to put them on. He would measure you for size. I’d start with your doctor.
