Emergency Surgery

What kind of surgery was it Kaggi60. Can the district nurse help with dressings, etc.? It sounds like you need aftercare, hope you make a good recovery.

The surgery should be able to give you an ample supply of dressings. My DH has to have some dressings changed regularly and our surgery gave him an ample supply.

You don't say what type of tablets you need. If they are prescribed tablets you will need that prescription. Perhaps the surgery can deal with that for you. If it was over the counter painkillers eg paracetamol, can you family get them for you?

I'm really shocked they didn't give you the prescribed tablets before you left.

Didn't you get a Discharge summary?
That should have all the information you need and copy should have been sent to your GP.
Meds should have been sorted as TTO's but if its just Paracetamol then just use what you have.
Really surprised speak to your GP practice, they will advise. Hope you get back to 100% soon. Take care

Part of the bowl removed and a hernia. Rang doctors but still no dressing but the ones I had got gave me a rash so I found some in my medical bag when hubby had his opp. Thank you for asking.

You can text the surgery now so the doctor sent me some to the pharmacy so sent family to get it. Thank You.

They forgot to supply anything but found out you can text the surgery now and it is a lot easier to ask a few questions. Just had discharge letter through the post. Thank you.

will you be having district nurse come to dress the wound.
it's important because they can also assess that the wound is healing correctly.
i dont think that can be done so well by photos.
please push for this. also they will be able to order the correct dressings, which can make quite a difference.

I’m glad you’re getting some support now Kaggi60. I had part of my bowel removed 3 years ago, but it was planned rather than an emergency. It’s a major op and you will need lots of rest. It’s very important to keep the wound clean but I didn’t really have a problem as it was keyhole surgery. If you have any problems contact the surgery straight away. A visit from the district nurse is the best idea,
