Replacement tooth - help!

I have the same tooth missing. I have a tiny denture, no plate, just the one tooth and it just stays in place. I forget it is there. I am sure you will be pleased with the result.

I don't know if this is something you would consider but my friend had all her teeth done in Turkey last year.
The savings compared to the uk were enormous.
The company arranged everything. Flights, hotel.
She researched the company extensively before going ahead.
Her teeth are amazing.
She doesn't look like someone from Love Island or The only way is Essex ?

I had to have a flipper when the root under a crown cracked and could no longer support it. For me it is the upper right first. It fits well and looks fine, but after a few months I still find that my tongue won't leave it alone! I have to be a bit careful when biting into food and tend to bite on the other side. For you I don't think there would be a problem, being further back. The alternative was an implant at £2000 minimum and I just couldn't justify the cost. My flipper only cost £250 including the root extraction. My dentist is private, but he vowed to keep his prices in line with the NHS, so I am very lucky.
It is less than 2 cm where it fits over the gum and I only take it out to clean it and put it back in at night. I will attach a couple of photos, a bit gross I know !

My friend had 5 implants (I think) a complete set of veneers 5 days in a hotel and flights for £7,000.
Plus the checkup was done in London.

I would never ever have any implants done abroad after having dental treatment done in Thailand with a top dentist that many ex pats used.

I had my implants done in this countr,y I just can't see how it can be done in 5 days. I had the implant done done and then had to wait up to 4 months to make sure it had taken before I had tooth put on it. Also what happen when you need the bone building up for the implant to take place. Sorry but no I would rather pay more.

I agree with Barmeyoldbat, especially if anything goes wrong once you return to this country. You may find that no dentist will touch you with a barge pole if he/she has to pick up the pieces of somebody else's work. If you did find a dentist it would not be done on the NHS and heaven knows what you would pay.

I just have a gap. The fifth isn't even visible, unless you do a very big smile or yawn! I'd rather spend money on something else!

Like Hetty58 I didn't have a replacement tooth, just left a gap. If my other teeth were all perfect then I might have worried but they're all getting old!

The dentist asked me if I wanted 'root canal work or just have it out' and I mumbled 'just take it out', mumbling because she had her fingers in my mouth at the time! She did not explain what root canal work was but it sounded painful.

This was many years ago and there is a gap but it doesn't show at all and makes no difference to eating.

If you can't really use a flipper tooth for chewing, it's merely cosmetic. I'd have one if it were in the front, just for confidence, but a fifth?

A dentist in Nairobi, 50 years ago, left me with a gap (not noticeable) when I had an abscess. My present-day dentist would undoubtedly have done a root canal and kept the tooth. I've had several root canals and never suffered undue pain from the procedure - except in my bank account.

Root canals don't always work, though. If they fail, any second attempt is (expensive) private, NHS is extraction!

I have a gap too like Hetty58 and Chestnut. I thought about it and decided not to have any replacement, I have no regrets.

I'm in this predicament at the moment, same tooth as yours, but it's a failed root canal, I have an abcess at the moment, so she won't touch it.They have mentioned I can see someone private, to try and save the tooth, but didn't say what, or how much, never heard of a flipper tooth.The NHS becoming expensive these days.

My advice would be to go to another dentist and get a second opinion. My dentist, I have been with him for 30years, recently quoted me £700 for a specialist night guard. I didnt think I needed it, and couldn’t afford it, so I went to another dentist who told me he charged £350 for that particular night guard and he couldn’t see any reason why I should be prescribed one.

Interesting, Humbertbear! Maybe commercial interests influence their advice at times? Mine suggested a denture but I knew I wouldn't wear it. Even wearing glasses irritates me after a while.

Just found this thread. I have been having ongoing nightmare with a failed root canal on my front tooth. Have had 4 attempts at reopening and redressing , gum cut, abscess drained, 10 lots of antibiotics etc. It’s hell.
I have lost faith with my own dentist (the wonderful man I used to see retired and it was taken over) so have almost begged another dentist to take it out but they say the infection is now deep in my nose and sinus and taking it out might not solve the problem. I’m slowly going round the twist.

Thanks for all your advice and suggestions - certainly given me something to chew over (sorry!). I've got quite a wide smile, and probably smile more than I should, so I think a gap would be noticeable, and, let's face it, I'm probably quite vain. I think that up-keep of teeth and eyes is getting increasingly expensive - things that those who are constantly bemoaning pensioners' benefits don't consider. Just waiting for the ears to pack up next! I've booked in for an extraction of the offending tooth in 10 days time, and will chat further with the dentist then. Many thanks.

Good luck Granny.I'm on my last couple of antibiotics 2nd lot, it still looks angry, I've just phoned the dentist to tell them it's settling and can I book an appointment to have it taken out, of course she said, is the 20th of Feb okay ! No other appointments available, I despair, it'll probably be infected again by then.
gilly what your going through sounds horrendous, have you got a dental hospital you could be referred to, or sometimes theres a dental hospital in the bigger cities, you have a sit and wait though, you should be seen soon, before things become worse.Good luck.

I had a tooth out in September. Due to have a zirconia bridge. This is permanent and is going to cost about £800. I am thinking of chickening out as you can't really see it and it sounds quite a lot of work.......

I’ve just had 2 implants done. My dog accidentally head butted me causing two crowns to fracture below gum level. My normal dentist removed one of the fractured roots and managed to provide temporary denture whilst I decided what I wanted to do next. Hated the denture - made me feel sick. I was referred to specialist implant dental surgeon in large city for bone density scan to see if I was suitable. It took from Feb 19 until Sep 19 including two surgeries plus bone grafts, metal screws in gum, healing, porcelain crowns. Spent some of kids inheritance. Would I do it again YES! Discomfort yes but very little pain.

Gillybob I've only just read your post, I do hope you can get some help soon, it sounds really painful
