Implants, crowns and Budapest.

It strikes me as a long way to go if there are any issues!

I know someone who recently spent £3000 on two implants. She was a bit miffed to discover that another friend had two implants done in India for £700. Even adding the cost of the flight and accommodation, it was much better value.

If you have a problem with overseas doctors or dentists you then either have to go back to the country or find a nhs or private practice to sort it out
I d never go overseas how ever much cheaper it is because of the aftercare but that’s just my own personal thoughts many people do
I don’t have any implants so can’t help you with advise but I do have a friend who did have a problem and spent a lot of money getting it fixed

I have one dental implant, very expensive but totally brilliant. My dentist checks it regularly. Wish I could afford more.

I don't know about Budapest, but a friend of mine was a medical doctor in Slovakia until she met and married a British man. After moving to the UK and producing her children she retrained as a dentist in the UK (top student of her intake in spite of English being her second language). She admires, and now works for, the NHS, but considers the health care in Europe to be of an equal or higher standard and much more holistic. She is confident that dental care in Slovakia is equal (or better) to any in the UK.

But there is still the issue of it being a long way to go if there is a problem and why should an NHS dentist pick up the pieces?

I don’t think there’s any doubt about the good standards in Europe Granny definitely equal or above but IF anything went wrong you have to keep going backwards and forwards and who knows what’s going to happen to travel after this stupid Brexit takes place that’s what I d be thinking about

I have had an implant for 15 years and it is the best tooth in my head, just having treatment for a crown with excellent NHS dentist, £230.

Kitty, I know that people in the UK have had horrendous experiences with cosmetic surgery and had to have treatment on the NHS to try to correct it.
I think it’s different with dentistry. My NHS dentist has been repairing my crowns, I have 4, when they break or fall off.
He is either not able or not willing to sort them out so I will have to pay. I would then expect to pay for repairs etc. If they occurred.
BlueBelle it did cross my mind too that it may be more difficult after Brexit then I remembered that we used to travel in the olden days! I believe that people from all over the world can access Budapest now. It is quite easy to get to Stanstead from here and if I couldn’t get there I’m sure private dentists here don’t turn down work.
I think I’m trying to persuade myself to go?

How many visits will it need? A friend is having an implant at the moment in Britain.
Visit one -assessment
Visit two- remove roots, check bone density
Visit three- a couple of months later when removal work has settled down, wound healed completely. Implant.
Visit four, six weeks after to check implant has taken.

This is without any potential “problem’ visits. I can see one and two could be combined, but have you factored in returnvisits to the cost?

Are you taking out insurance against return costs if problems do arise or are you hoping your dentist will be able to sort them out?

Pamela of course we used to travel before we entered the EU but that was a long time ago and I ve read that we may well need visas etc I ve no idea personally just bringing it up as another factor to consider
Personally I think anyone who believes that life will be ‘just as before’ is going to get a wake up call

I understand that BlueBelle and it is a factor. I’m just starting my investigations and really only wondered if anyone on here had any experience of dentists in Budapest.

Eglantine that’s what I’m trying to assess. The clinic I’m looking at has a clinic in London too so there is a base here.
As I have said my dentist seems either incapable or unwilling to sort my teeth out now so naturally I know I couldn’t turn to him if things went wrong.

Me, I weigh up all the cons, then think what the hell and do it anyway!

I certainly wasn’t trying to start a Brexit thread Pamela I steer well clear of them but surely it has to be thought of if hoping to travel to Europe in the future Sorry that you saw it a different way

I’ve got three teeth on two implants, done locally by private dentist recommended by my own practice. I get regular check ups and have to be very careful with oral hygiene. I used some of my retirement lump sum to pay for them. I’d be too scared to go abroad for the treatment in case anything went wrong with aftercare, infection etc. I’ve a friend of a friend who got them done in Spain and had various problems requiring treatment here privately. I don’t regret getting the implants but I also needed bone augmentation so it was a long drawn out procedure, another reason I wouldn’t go abroad.

Well thanks to all of you, I did take on board all the comments and have decided to take the cautious route. usually I do tend to take the scarier and more chancy option like you Eglantine.
I phoned the local practice yesterday and went in this morning. £6300 for 4 and I can have a nice smile for Christmas ?
I will try and remember to give you an update when it’s finished.
