Any ex midwives out there?

Three centimetres from the cervix is actually quite safe and unlikely to cause any problems. If you think about it moved to a safer position first time round, when it was considered low and this time it's comparatively further away, that might put it into perspective.

I hadn't realised the placenta could move? I'm going to have to investigate that ...
Mishap waiting for a new grandchild is very exciting I hope all goes well and Mum and baby do well.

Mishap my daughter (due mid-June) was also placenta previa, but as the womb enlarged the placenta continued to lift higher away from the cervix so hopefully by the time baby is due it will be well out of the way.

The placenta doesn't 'move' per se, the uterus stretches and expands as the pregnancy progresses and the placenta grows at the same time to meet the growing needs of the baby.

My DD has just rung and says she has been told that as long as it is 1 cm away all is well - so that sounds good.

I had a friend with placenta praevia and she was in hospital for most of the pregnancy - I am very glad that this did not happen to DD!

Nowadays I expect placenta previa is closely monitored and the prolonged bed rest I remember from 35 years ago isn't now necessary. I think a friend's DD was told she had PP with her 2nd baby but she carried on normally and had an elective CS at 38 weeks.

Thanks - it is a relief. The trouble with having all daughters is that you cannot have GC without them having to go through labour! The chances are that this will be our last GC so I will not have to go through it again! She is a brave lass and she got through her first labour on just paracetamol.
