First early potatoes

I planted first earlies at the end of March. Two lots. Dug one lot up and most of them are fine, but the larger ones have like a brown scabby coating, which I can scrape off. Does any gardener out there know what this might be please? Thanks.

I think it’s due to fluctuations in watering. At the beginning of the year it was quite dry, then we had a lot of rain, then a hot spell, then more rain.
Potatoes are obviously deep rooted and even if the top soil appears dry or wet it might not reflect the deeper soil conditions. Brown scab like this isn’t harmful to humans, scrape off thought!
Enjoy, I’m hoping to get mine soon, I was a bit late planting them.
