Tap roots

I want to ask what may seem a stupid question: if I pull up a taproot (weed) and it breakes leaving the tip of the root in the ground, can a new plant grow from that root?

Have been doing a fair bit of delayed weeding recently and this thought occurred to me.

Yes, unfortunately it is likely to regrow. The best thing to do is keep hoeing it when it emerges which will weaken the plant and eventually kill it.

Dandelions are famous for it, the root breaks so easily if you aren’t careful.

This year's record breaking tap root is a fennel plant that self seeded in one of the raised beds. Took two of us to pull it out.

Hollyhocks do. They can be a pain to get rid of once they get established - and a long way to dig down.
