Can anyone tell me what to do when Iris have finished flowering. Do I deadhead like daffodils and leave the leaves as with bulbs or do I cut down the stems?

I always cut mine right down - leaves, stems, the lot. I honestly don't know if that's what I'm supposed to do but I've had them for many years and they are flourishing. I'll be interested to see what any 'proper' gardeners on here have to say
