On mine it's the slow speed outlet and the mincer, the slicer and shredder, the coffee mill, the bean slicer and pea bullet and the can opener, go there.

What is a slow speed outlet for? Something to do with the attachments?

Yes. It's where the attachments that require a slower speed go.

Mine is about 40 years old so doesn't do all that!

this is the 901 which I had when I started out. Replaced it later with the Chef Major. Attachments the same.

And yes, they do make that racket.

Thanks for the info, I have downloaded the manual to my iPad and promptly lost it somehow. It must be lurking in cyber space somewhere though.
