A family member of the corner shop I go to had flown in from Sri Lanka at the beginning of last month. So far no new cases of anything----fingers crossed.

It will take at least 3 weeks to find that out. And just as long for the first dose of vaccine to take effect.

No change at the moment would not think they would change unless hospital admissions increase

I hope Maybee70 that as the most at risk groups have had their vaccine and probably their second it should help

we do not know who this varian will deal with the vaccine- hence the true and real worry.

It said on the news tonight that there is confidence that this variant is controlled by the vaccine, the problem is that younger people aren’t yet vaccinated, so it will continue to spread until they are also protected, hence the vaccine programme being targeted there.

That's the risk the Government took when they gave travellers several days notice about flights from India and invited an Indian delegation to the G7 summit. Extremely risky and now the chickens are coming home to roost.

It’s close here too. In nearby Bolton figures a surging. The news reports this variant is much more easily transmissible than the Kent one.

Yes, good to get the younger ones there vaccinated, it’s the only way to keep it controlled.

It may well be that the towns with the Indian variant have to stay in lockdown a bit longer, or at least delay pubs and cafes opening if necessary.

I think there are more cases here than in Sri Lanka although one case was detected there.

I agree. Why is anyone allowed to fly in? Having been in one form of lockdown or another since October, I just want to be able to go out for coffee with a friend indoors. It’s not much to ask.

I can’t see my family in NZ at least till next year so why are we talking about and booking trips abroad? It’s so upsetting when we have done everything asked of us.

As an aside, my DD in NZ mentioned in passing that every shop she visits, she has to sign in with an app. Apparently in NZ they have track and trace well organised.
