I agree with Illte, their has been proactive action. The Home Secretary has already issued a statement to confirm that they are close to a localised lockdown; it's the mayor of Leicester, Sir Peter Soulsby, who has said that there's no immediate prospect. So the deferral is at local government level, not national.

Has the flare up been contained?

Surely local government should take responsibility for local lockdowns. Westminster can't hold the hand of every town and city in the land that has an outbreak.

Yes, it should do Peardrop but the Mayor will be thinking of lost trade as pubs and cafes and shops will be open by next week.This shouldn’t be the case...but it will be.

There's no actual guidance on how a local shutdown would operate so little proactivity from the Government, yet again!

Well everyone's entitled to their opinion even if they haven't actually bothered to find out the facts. Obviously my experience of the very efficient track and trace conducted by the extra units that were drafted in is, well just fantasy I guess.

Illte have contacts been asked to self-isolate? That could give hope that the outbreak may not get out of hand.

And, the elected Mayor is full of bluster as he has been caught breaking lockdown by visiting his partner 'who was very ill' twice.

I expect that's why the Home Secretary has issued their latest statement.

2 Samworth sandwich factories have been closed along with 4/5 schools. I'm impressed with the response.

Leicester and Leicestershire are great.

Nothing surprises me any more.
In fact what does surprise me is that up to now not many food factories have been hit-yet- given the amount of workers who've kept these places going. Also considering that extra workers were flown in from Romania to help with the onslaught of extra packing because of demands in stores/supermarkets.

A relative visited. We sat in the garden more than two metres. Two days later she had a cough and because extra mobile units had been drafted in was able to get a drive through test immediately. The result came through in less than 48 hours. She provided contact details. I was contacted that day.

The person I spoke to was very professional, said that the risk was minimal but that I should isolate. He asked if I had been in close contact with anyone else. Thankfully only my live on partner.

It was more than 14 days ago so I am 99% we are OK.

There is and will be much that could have been done better in this pandemic but if people just use everything as an opportunity to sound off then it all just gets lost in endless (and in this case unjustified) negativity.

We need to acknowledge what works well so that it can be copied and repeated. Covid should be our first concern rather than seeing it as a useful political device.
