I very often dip into "Britain Revisited" on Facebook - it's absolutely fascinating.
Today I watched "20 things that were sold in markets that have vanished"
If like me, you're a child of the 50's you'll be reminded of lots of things you've completely forgotten.
4 standouts for me were
Army surplus - loads and loads of bags and food tins - and then I remembered about Army Surplus Stores, they were all over the place but gradually died out, I'm guessing because they got rid of most the surplus left over from the war plus it became very trendy in the 60's to wear military clothing and it was more likely to be found in Carnaby Street than on a market stall.
Seafood - and I mean whelks, cockles, winkles. And of course jellied eels. I can remember sitting in my Grandparents dining room with a pin to get the tiny ones out of the shells. Delicious.
The Cobbler - taking your shoes to be soled and heeled, and they'd last for years. And he also did knife sharpening.
Weighing out broken biscuits that were kept in those glass topped wooden boxes. And taking them home in a brown paper bag. A whole packet of biscuits was a bit out of our budget back then, so the broken ones were a real treat.
It's a really good watch if you have 15 minutes to spare
