It’s beautiful isn’t it? The purity of the choir boy’s voice who sings Walking In The Air on the film soundtrack ( not Aled Jones) is breathtaking and evokes a real emotional response.

For me and the DCs it started with the wonderful book written and illustrated by Raymond Briggs. Then the film which reproduced the book's illustrations perfectly and added the beautiful musical soundtrack. No wonder it has become a Christmas classic that generations of children and adults have enjoyed.

Yes lovely memories of our young DC watching it every year for many years. Magical. And a calm 15 minutes in a busy afternoon. My parents sat and watched as well.

I have a tiny rubber Snowman pin brooch that belonged to my late darling mum. I wear it every December. It makes me and others smile when I wear it.

Here is mine - given to me by Mum when it first came out. Treasured ever since.

That book was our go to during lockdown.

Our WhatsApp Family Group was awash with exerts.

I loved it but my dd, then 5 or 6 hated it. She still does but can’t say why. I find it surprising as she’s one of the kindest, most caring people I know.

It always reminds me of one Christmas when our eldest son was three and we sat, him on my lap, and watched it by the firelight, waiting for DH to come in so we could eat our Christmas dinner. He had been all day in the shed with a calving cow! Dinner was late that year!

Yes, ‘Ethel and Ernest’ is brilliant! And very moving.

I’m also a great fan of Raymond Briggs’ ‘Father Christmas’. Someone gave it to dd when she was just 2 - far too young for it! However it made me laugh so much, my mother said, ‘You’ll start your baby off!’ (I was 7 month pregnant at the time.

I still adore grumpy old Father Christmas, and get the book out every year.

I’ve just read that David Bowie didn’t want a fee for his introduction to The Snowman. Just the scarf for his son. x

Visiting family and 2 year old GC is mesmerized by it. I have to confess after five days I've had enough of it for a while. You really can have too much of a good thing.

There is a follow up to Father Christmas and it is Father Christmas goes on holiday. Where Father Christmas turns his sleigh into a caravan and goes to a seaside and the children recognise him but he gets them to be quiet about him to the adults. Hope you enjoy that too

I always feel quite emotional when I see or hear this film.

CalendarGirl I love The Snowman, Christmas isn't the same without watching it. I remember when I used to do childminding, putting it on and we all danced round the room in a circle holding hands when the snowmen from all over the world were doing it. It was lovely.

When my son was small he found Briggs’s Father Christmas so funny he nearly laughed himself sick.

I love Ethel and Ernest, and find it stands up to repeated viewing.

For those of us living in Scotland, Barrs do an advert using The Snowman and the music which highlights tourist attractions in Scotland and is quite funny. I don't watch adverts if I can help it, but I like this one.
However the original animation is just lovely and the ending is so poignant

Oh, I have long treasured that book. the simple honesty and acceptance on sad and poignant matters.

The one we read with DS were the already mentioned Father Christmas ones, though, again and again...and again... ☺️

I don't wish to go back. My other " hope there will be on" this year will be "The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse."

The Snowman is beautiful and will be shown along with Shaun the Sheep accompanied by the Halle orchestra this weekend in Manchester. My DD works for the Halle and is taking my DS, DiL and GCs on Saturday. It will be the children's first experience of an orchestral concert, but I think they have already seen the films at home.
