I have always taken photographs, both with a ‘proper’ SLR camera and a smaller digital one for snaps. I was looking back on some photos I had taken, and they mostly brought back memories of occasions I have enjoyed, and had taken a few photos as reminders.
It seems to me now that so many people don’t enjoy the actual occasions as they are too concerned with getting a photo, as this photo of New Year in Paris illustrates. I was also struck by the people who had stood in the freezing cold to watch the Royal Family going to church at Christmas, only to view them via their phones ( I almost found myself agreeing with Prince Andrew!).
I think it’s a shame that getting a photograph or video, possibly for social media, is now the main thing for a lot of people.
