And, it turned out that our grandsons are best friends!
What a coincidence!

I went to the school play a couple of weeks ago but didn't meet an old flame ☹
In fact, I've never bumped into any old flames.

The play was very good, btw!!

Some years ago when our DCs were at High school I realised that the new English teacher was someone I had dated for a few weeks when we were both 16. . Parents evening was held in the school hall. The teachers sat around the edges and the parental sat in the middle and went to speak to the relevant teachers at an allotted time. Even though he didn't teach my children I decided to say hello to him so when he didn't have a parent to talk to I went up to him and said " hi. You won't remember me but... We chatted for a few minutes. Then I realised that quite a few of the teachers were watching us, so word must have spread. It turns out that in the way of Chinese whispers, as time past the tale of , our teenage romance had grown into H's mum was having an affair with Mr S!!

Mine went on their way (were sent on their way mainly!) never to be seen again.
Although my DB came back from an overseas holiday where they'd palled up with a lovely couple from another part of the UK. On the last day they discovered they were my ex-boyfriend's parents.

About 10 years ago when I was in my 60s, I was walking locally and a man stopped me and said 'I know you. I was your postman when you lived in such a street'. I left there when I was 25 so I was chuffed.

We have very occasionally bumped into each other over the years - mostly in B&Q! We do both live near the same small town and they live in a nearby village. He definitely wasn't an old flame.

The most shocking thing was that his grandson and mine are best friends.

My df and I were talking about our early romances only yesterday.
She googled one of hers and I did the same, only to read a beautiful obituary in the Guardian!

Sorry kitty I realise you were talking about the lovely coincidence with the grandchildren.

What a coincidence kitty! I wonder if they will remain best friends as they transfer schools. I recently found out that a gentleman who moved into this East Midlands village the same year as we did, was a post grad student at the research unit in Surrey where I was admin assistant in 1970! Neither of us remember each other (thank goodness) but we do remember some of the other characters!

Many years ago, attending eldest daughter’s last Secondary school parents night, a voice said “Hello, oh how lovely to see you, I look at you everyday” I was completely stumped, I’d never seen her before! It turned out she had a copy of the newspaper photo of herself, me and our daughters on her piano. The babies were born on New Year’s Day so merited a local newspaper article!! Our daughters were great friends too.

I rang someone to come and fix my washing machine. To my embarrassment he was someone I dated for a year. I was 16 and basically ghosted him when I was fed up with him. It was mortifying as we both pretended we didn't know each other.

When lockdown started to ease I was heading to the hairdresser for the first time in 6 months and bumped into an old flame. Couldn't have happened after i had my hair done

A few years ago I bumped into someone I worked for 40 years ago - he recognised me straight away. Which made me wonder if I was a really fit 60 year old - or had I been a really rough 20 year old!

Haha can’t escape anyone living here on an island. Only thing is when people move away and then return for a visit………it’s interesting. Some have envy and regret leaving others seem to think they are some how superior.

Many years ago I went to my daughters parents evening & I bumped into one of their teachers who actually taught me many years previous Different location many years on .

I'm still friends with a few exes,sometimes I have lunch with one of them.Just because we weren;t suited to a long term relationship doesn't mean we cant still be friends .In fact my OH is good friends with at least 3 of them and when we were working I'd sometimes find them chatting to my OH in our office .
My late dad was scandalised that 2 old boyfriends took the photographs at my wedding...well its a small town.

That is the same for me. Lost all my girlfriends too, life is lonely. Four houses near me are empty because the people have died. I just wish I had a family, only had one child and I am not grand enough for their life style, tolerated occasionally, criticised every time I have any contact.

My two “weird” coincidences involved our eldest daughter and two of her school friends.
About 37 years ago a group of mums were collecting our children at the end of tennis club after school in our nearby town. I got chatting to the mother of D’s “best friend” and LSS found not only had we both been at St Andrew’s at the same time, but she had been in my French class and in DH’s Russian class. (Neither of us have ANY family link with the area we have ended up in 400 or so miles away.)
The other odd coincidence was when looking at old school photos a few years later, it turned out the the father of one of D’s friends in the village was standing two along from DH in his house photo from his (infamous) boarding school in the north of Scotland.
That old cliché about 7 degrees of separation is not so unlikely after all.
