Light hearted - The Great Tea Debate

I don’t like tea and only drink it rarely, but I would always put the milk in first, then the tea ‘scalds’ it, I think.

I think this is the naff way of doing it, not the more upmarket way, but could be wrong on that.

Tetley Scottish blend, strong as you can make it and definitely tea first then a wee drop milk

I drink loads of tea, but aren’t fussed about the brand. We buy loose over teabags though, so there’s not so much choice. Definitely tea first, then a drop of milk.

I drink Rooibos. Tea first followed by a little milk. I also like Earl grey. A combination of Asam and Earl grey leaf tea makes a refreshing drink.

Tea first then milk, always made in a teapot. Has to be strong too, so I like Yorkshire tea and Tetleys. I like coffee too so not a tea snob.

No milk at all, thanks - tea with milk tastes vile to me. Which just goes to show how people’s taste buds can differ.
And I fish the teabag out pretty quickly - can’t stand the strong tannin taste of stewed tea.

We like Yorkshire Tea for Hard Water but don’t often see it now. Tea first, milk last. The cup or mug has to be fine white china for us too, no chunky mugs thank you!

Definitely milk first. Have you noticed how many of us over fifties leave a small amount at the bottom of a cup of tea and not coffee? It must be a legacy of loose leaf tea. Also china cups or mugs. I am a on a one woman mission to bring back cups and saucers. I think they are far more civilised. Also, I don’t always want a mug sized drink and a cup gives the option of pouring another one if I want it (l think tea tastes much better when brewed in a teapot) and if some gets spilled then it goes in the saucer rather than on me or the furniture. Plus I have some lovely china and crockery. ☕️

Earl Grey tea. Made in a pot with 1 teabag. So weak and black for us.

I like any English Breakfast tea it’s my favourite drink. I have it with soya milk at home and semi skimmed when I’m out. I do prefer my milk in first and I like it quite weak. I don’t take sugar.

As a potter one of the things I learned early on was it all depends on the clay used in the teacup.
Traditional low fired red earthenware pots will crack if boiling liquid is poured in. Milk first to cool it

Porcelain, on the other hand, is stronger and won't crack so tea first and probably no milk. Porcelain in the 18th century was expensive so the preserve of the rich who liked to drink out of dainty translucent white cups Milk wasn't usual. Lemon was preferred.

I like milk in mine , add it after and even have milk in herb tea.
