Daffodils

Once Christmas is over, I like to buy cut daffodils (even though I hate yellow) and hyacinths in pots to lift the dark days.
No daffs in my Sainsbury’s yet.

No daffs in my local stores yet but they’ve had tulips for sale since October!

I love having daffs in the house after Christmas and for as long as in season. They are such a cheerful colour and brighten the place up.

Found some! In Aldi today, British grown, 98p.

They has tulips too but those seem to be available most of the year somehow.

Beat me to it lixy I meant to post I saw them in Aldi too.

Oh the joy of seeing smiling daffodils, I can't wait! I'll check the supermarkets tomorrow.
Wasn't it one of the impressionist painters who said something like, there are daffodils (??) everywhere for those who want to see?

A lot of the early daffodils and narcissi come from the Channel Islands. Their season is from December until March.

Someone in our town left £2.3 million with a wish to plant a million daffodils bulbs around about.

We always had daffs in the first week of January (if not before) when I was a girl.
My lovely dad sought the earliest ones out for mum.

There are daffodils which flower in January. I planted the bulbs in my garden when I lived in Shropshire. I also bought January flowering daffodil bulbs for two of my friends. I've never seen the bulbs in garden centres, I sent away to a specialist bulb firm for them.

They are so lovely, daffodils. The flowers are very short lived here,though, because the climate isn’t quite right. Same applies to bluebells which spread everywhere but only last a day in flower.

The snow drops are peeping through in the garden. I like to buy the mini daffs in pots.

My mother-in-law would always bring me a bunch of daffodils when she came to us over Christmas. Now when my daughter or daughter-in-law host Christmas I carry on the tradition.

I don’t like yellow flowers much either.
Only have a couple of pots of hyacinths in the house and in Spring I buy tulips cos I like the colours and shapes they make when they bend outwards.
In the garden I will have a pot or two of white narcissi.

I've just remembered (while eating my lunch) that it was Henri Matisse. He said, there are flowers everywhere for those who want to see. Daffodils were specifcally in my mind because of one of his paintings.

Took this photo at the end of December here in S Somerset... love them - this variety is early every year!

That's a great painting Joseanne. I love the way tulips wriggle and writhe too Oreo and he captures it beautifully.

December is early for daffs even in sunny Somerset VB000. They look naturalised too - great find.
