Still in shock about that MP stabbing

It is a dreadful thing that his poor wife and children will have to live with for the rest of there lives. My heart goes out to them.

one of his daughters was married in august, and one due to be married in december. without him. very difficult.
reports say the perpetrator picked him at random.
wonder if it was because his name appeared near top of lists of MPs near enough to london.

It really is awful . welbeck oh gosh really. I just can't imagine it . I really can't . It's incomprehensible. Plays on my mind.

Shocking isn’t it? His poor family. Such a barbaric act. His family having to think about the man they loved dying in such a horrible way.

So many tragic deaths just lately. A poor 14 year old boy fatally stabbed to death by a 16y old only a few days ago. And a boy stabbed to death playing football by his opponent who had a knife hidden in his football sock. Ye gods! What on earth is happening? What’s with all the knives, swords, machetes? What has happened to our society that such acts are becoming common place? I fear for my 9 year old grandson growing up.

Exactly ? he was my MP for years. I’ve met him and it was normal to see him walking round Leigh or Southend talking to traders.

You mean Sir David Amess, I assume?

What makes it all the more terrible is the fact that by all accounts, he was such a lovely man who genuinely cared about his community in south Essex.

I hope the perpetrator is never released from prison.

It really was a most horrific killing of a lovely man. He wasn’t my MP but the number of lovely, positive comments from a wide range of people must mean that he was a good man who worked hard on behalf of other people. I hope his family are eventually able to take comfort from the fact that he was loved and admired by so many people. He was a practicing Catholic, but sadly the priest wasn’t allowed in to administer the last rites.

It sounds like Sir David Amess MP was very well thought of by his constituents. Lots of stories about his whole hearted commitment to them. Another wife and children left to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives and for what I wonder?

I mentioned this on the other thread but did anyone else hear woman’s hour on Monday ? Former Labour MP Paula Sheriff was on talking about Sir David in the most affectionate terms. I found it very moving. If you missed it, it’s on BBC Sounds and it’s the first item.

No one deserves to be stabbed whilst going about their job (or leisure or anything) It should always be shocking.

I think it’s been very upsetting to any reasonable person no matter their political persuasion. The publicity has however highlighted that some (perhaps many) MPs, such as Sir David Amess, don’t seek high office but simply want to serve the people who elected them and those who didn’t, without favour. Such MPs are to be found in all parties I’m sure, unsung and hardworking heroes who don’t seek the limelight for themselves, only the people and causes they fight for. Like you Neen I can’t get my head around it, perhaps never will. Just senseless.

That is the most chilling thing about this murder; it appears to be senseless.
No personal emotions involved, no vendetta, no help denied, no issue ignored, simply a target identified for ease of access.

Horrendous, absolutely horrendous. Isn’t it time we had another knife amnesty? I know this isn’t the complete answer, there are many other problems to solve with gun and knife crime, but surely it can’t harm - can it? And why are knife amnesties so rarely undertaken? I’m probably being a bit naive, but something has to be done. We’ll all be in fear of our lives, if we aren’t already. I fear for my grandchildren growing up, I really do.

What is particularly awful is that this man was known to the authorities. The same with the Manchester bomber, known to the authorities. The Manchester bomber’s brother was known to the authorities and was required to give evidence at the inquiry, but he’s left the country!! How did that happen? Why no action?

It is quite clear from her actual post that she is very upset about the incident, just like the rest of us.
To make a thing about the wording is. IMO, unnecessary, demeaning and petty.

What is particularly awful is that early on a teacher had him down as being a potential threat and had reported it.
