A mention of Halloween on another thread reminded me of this modern American invention which has a lot to recommend it.
The Switch Witch is out and about (at least in California) at Halloween. She is looking for candy (sweets) which explains her awful teeth. My grandchildren are encouraged to place the bulk of the candy they were given for Halloween into a bag which is placed outside the front door. The switch witch removes the candy and switches it for a modest but desirable gift which is found by the children the next morning.
The first time I witnessed this magic my granddaughter was thrilled to receive a new piggy bank, having accidentally dropped and smashed hers only a few days previously.
It solves the sugar problem very nicely and all the children in their school receive a visit from the switch witch.
The land is dry, and the people are ...stupid?
