Help needed with a parachute...,.....,

My 2 small dgs have asked me to make parachutes for some of their toys so they can drop them from the upstairs landing! I have fabric, string etc but how big do these need to be? We live in a bungalow so I can’t experiment. Toys weigh 26g, 30g and 134g (mum used this as a maths lesson!) Is there any mathematical way of working this out or is it just trial and error?

As a child, I can remember using one of my father’s white cotton handkerchiefs, some cotton as strings tied to the corners and a wooden cotton reel as a weight. I think I used to bundle the cotton reel up in the hanky and throw it as high as I could and it would float down again. Of course, men's large cotton handkerchiefs and wooden cotton reels are things of the past - so really not much help but it brought back memories.
