Christmas Decorations

I do agree. While most of us love beautiful decorations we don't expect to see them at the beginning of November! Spoils the Christmas season for me. Its not special by the time it comes. Hope you all had a lovely time though.

I groaned this morning when I found Asda adorned with a huge tree and decorations in the foyer! Bah humbug!

Can't wait to put mine up and cheer up this gloomy weather- will wait until December but a few fairy lights may appear before then.

I think they just wait for bonfire night to be over then it is a clear run. In America they have Thanksgiving first so they don't start quite so early on Christmas.

Have just been into town and all the big shops have their decorations up and their trees and there are fairy lights along the escalators. All very pretty but yet more evidence of excessive commercialisation.

I have just been out for lunch about forty minutes from home. Have passed three houses already decorated and lit up.

My friend has her decorations up. Her family came to put them up at the weekend. She's rather unwell though and wanted to enjoy them while she can

about 2nd week of december is plenty of time, to get in the christmas mood.

Some places that accommodate Christmas "dos" have trees and decorations up very early!

I remember (when I had a "proper job" ) staying in a hotel in London in November and seeing a fully decorated tree in the foyer.

I think that some companies hold their parties in November, although heaven knows why!

Have I imagined it, or did businesses used to wait until we'd had Remembrance Sunday before they launched their Christmas adverts and put up the decorations?

I was in town today and yes, the decorations are up. I think they must wait until bonfire night is past, as others have said.

I don't know if it's just in Scotland but the decorations in shops often come down on Xmas Eve so that the shops are ready for the Boxing Day sales.

A tea shop near me has been decorated for Christmas since mid September...?

I'm in the US/Midwest and every nursery greenhouse is beautifully decorated- All the stores have their Christmas decor available, some already marked down 50%- It gets earlier each year- We already have snow- Samhain marks the beginning of the winter season ..

Its madness! I don’t think there should be any sign of Christmas in these places until next month.

I think the Christmas lights usually go on about the middle of November don’t they? I haven’t been to any big shopping centres lately but am going into Chichester on Tuesday so I’ll know then. I’m going to Australia and New Zealand at the end of the week, so it’ll be interesting to see if they’ve got any up.

I think as the retail trade is struggling in the battle against on line shopping, the shops, supermarkets and small businesses etc are trying their hardest to entice people into their stores in a bid to increase sales which may explain a great emphasis on Christmas decorations etc. Certainly most people I know with children are buying online rather than pushing through crowds in city centres or shopping centres. Although my family are all grown up , I too buy on line for convenience but I still like to do some Christmas shopping in the town to experience the Christmas atmosphere and get in the festive mood.

Don’t get me started, i work in the greeting card industry and we’ve had phase 1 of Christmas cards out since 18th October. What happens is when one retailer puts there’s out early the others follow so every year it’s getting earlier whilst they all compete for sales.
We have just had our meeting to discuss when Valentines go out on sale.

Far too late for the sprouts Teetime , according to the much missed Victoria Wood, her mother always put them on in September.

I don't mind them, at least not after Bonfire Night. Nice and cheerful on dark and dismal days. Garden centres are usually awash with Christmas by now. Shall take little Gdcs to one soon - I know they'll love it.

This business of starting Xmas earlier and even earlier every year is just a crass way of getting people to spend more money that they haven't got - it's all on credit and store cards.

And then - come January - the debt advice charities have to try and untangle the unholy mess of multiple debts.

I used to work on the admin. side of a very well known charity such as the above. I actually came across people who - amazingly - believed that they were on track to scoop the National Lottery to solve their debt troubles......
