Anyone remember telephone numbers?

I can barely remember my own landline number let alone my mobile ! I put it down to a lack of interest. I can remeber words and addresses very easily. Much more interesting!

Telephone numbers from my childhood and youth seem engraved in my brain but I can never remember the one in our present house. We have lived here 18 months and it still hasn't sunk in.

Oh yes Fram my grandmother had a phone put in 61 years ago and I still remember the number 11417

Slightly different, I remember the number plate of our first car, when I was about eight, but I haven’t got the remotest idea what mine is now!

We all have so many numbers to remember now , pins,
log in number etc. It is difficult to remember everyone of them .

I do know my own mobile tel. no. Keep the same sim card when I change phones, so that I can keep that. Everybody else I rely on the memories in my phones (mobile or landline), but do have them all written down as well.
I also know the 'long' number for my credit card - have given it so often and thyed it so often it is engraved in my memory - but new card due to arrive soon, so will have to learn new one

When I was first married, our telephone number was just three digits, I remember it well. I can also remember the phone numbers of relatives from childhood days.
I know my mobile phone number as I'm often asked to give that, so I memorized it.
Other numbers, I rely on the memory of the phone for.

I remember not only phone numbers but licence plates, addresses, PIN numbers and card numbers. In fact my friend calls me Rainman!

Oh....and postcodes!!

I do finally know my own mobile number which I've had for years but never bothered to memorise it until recently. I know our home landline as we've had that for over 30 years and equally my husband's mobile as he's had the same number since his first phone when they were like a brick! I don't know any of our family's numbers or their addresses and postcodes without looking them up.

Strangely I can remember one of my dad's car registrations from when I was a child and our own first car but nothing else.

We had telephone exchanges, which I wholeheartedly missed since they did away with them-

So I returned to using words to memorize my cell numbers, and it worked-

I know my own mobile, but nobody else's. I do remember the house phone number from 60 years ago and actually use bits of it as my pin code or whenever I need numbers. I also remember my childhood best friend's number.

I think it is because the old style dialling imprinted the numbers much more than push buttons. (Plus of course they were only 5 digits long, rather than 11).

The only bits of landline numbers I can remember are the dialling codes. I did memorise DD’s landline number - just as they got rid of their landline! Mobile numbers? Hopeless! I do, however, know my nine digit library card number, and the pin! I still remember both mine and DH’s regimental numbers (they say you never forget them). Totally useless!

I know my mobile number and landline. I can't remember any previous phone numbers. I know my mum's Co-op Divi number though!

My Nan’s Co-Op divi number was 104949. Can remember my landline and my mobile, nothing else though, not even DH’s mobile.

Only know my landline and mobile, which I made myself memorise - it's so satisfying to be able to reel off those 11 numbers!

I can remember my Mum’s phone number when she lived in Leeds. She died 38 years ago. Do not know my DD’s mobile numbers or their landlines. Not that good with remembering my own landline unless I say it with the correct intonation. Remember my Wrens number as though it were yesterday. Also my NI number as we had to use it for logging on at work.

I can remember back to the landline number we had when I was a child and can rattle off most numbers I use now but I have great difficulty remembering my National Insurance Number

I have a fear of going out without my phone and then something happens, accident or lose my purse for instance then how to contact anybody as I have no clue what any of my families numbers are. I know my own home and mobile numbers but that’s it.

This thread made me think about my contacts as well. They are all stored with Google, which I access via the contacts app on my mobile phone. I can access my contacts via any of my other devices but, at the moment, with two factor authentication set up on Google, if I try to access my Google account, I will have a code sent to my phone! (Really useful if I have lost access to my phone.) Google provide 10 single use emergency codes which can be stored in advance, they can be used if you don't have your phone. I will put these in my password manager notes.

I don't know what other email providers allow though, it might be worth searching on the internet for information about emergency access to your email provider's website.

I know my landline and my mobile number and, this morning, I made sure I knew DH's mobile too.

I still remember Hounslow 4381.. My childhood telephone number.

I sympathise with this poor man, I know my landline number but no others. I do know my library card number though!
