Living in Salisbury??

That's what I wondered when I saw the thread lemongrove.

Yes! Plenty of jokes flying around, to be expected!! ? but a very serious matter.. the locals seem really lovely people and no doubt the media of the world impacted on their lives for a while, as they do..?..saw no cameras at all.. survived, weather not great, a lot of rain..

I believe the cathedral attracts visitors from across the globe!

It's a very attractive cathedral town, the "Cloister Close" and meadows around the cathedral itself are lovely. It seems to have a fairly nice shopping centre, although we know people who live there and they say that businesses have suffered a major downturn since the Novichok debacle, but hopefully that won't last. I believe there is to be some sort of investment and general overhaul of the town. The surrounding countryside is also lovely and it's not too far from the Hampshire and Dorset coast.

I worked there for a couple of years - lovely architecture but a tiny city that is seriously gridlocked by its traffic. Whilst understandably they have worked so hard at preserving the place they have also throttled it by insane planning decisions. It’s Conservative in such a big way that it’s Preservative! Lovely to visit but hard to leave because of the traffic!

Thank you all for humorous and factual replies..yes, I agree the surrounding countryside is beautiful, as is the architecture and cathedral. A thumbs up on my decision as good place to live and retire.. ? weather probably not as dry and warm as London but don't think anywhere around is..?, not warm today though!

When I moved to London from the West Country it rained solidly for three weeks. I was then informed that the Thames Valley is a very damp place!

Bakka, Salisbury is a lovely place to live. I lived there for over 30 years and only moved because of my marriage break up. Plenty of opportunities there to enjoy everything you are looking to do.

I would move to Salisbury if I could. A lovely place - small but has everything you need. Traffic can be bad though, as has been said, especially from/ to Southampton.
