Seen through a lens ....a life in photography

we've often talked about writing a book about our experiences as photographers ,climbing oil rigs,flying under bridges weddings in castles and cottages and the most amazing people .Some we remember with great fondness and others we'd rather forget.Now we're retiring we might just do it .

Rollercoaster!

Mine is called 'Nah then Lass' and was written specifically so my sons and grandchildren would know what life and times were like for me growing up in Bradford just after the war.

Milk delivered by horse and cart; ice on the inside of my bedroom window and on my eiderdown!
Peggy purse with a biscuit wrapped in grease-proof paper for school playtime with a tiny bottle of milk.
Cod liver oil, orange juice, National Dried Milk, Virol and Bengers Food.

Helping Mum boil, poss and mangle the laundry in the cellar; counting the coal sacks as they shuttered down the shute into the cellar; Romanies coming to the door with pegs and heather; the Betterware man and maimed veterans selling wind-up toys in the street.

A lost world.

My DH was born and bred in Bradford Bradfordlass circa 1951 . He says not..... but I suspect he was a poshy. No outside loo and his dad had a CAR !

It mirrors my early years. I remember all those things with a wistfulness that belies the hard truth of eleccy cuts and shortages.
