Yes. Sounds awful for the little dog. Easily done though. I have had one dropped in my kitchen before now. It got trod on and just made a helluva mess. Thankfully nothing like this.

Thanks for bumping gonegirl - it was a very scary experience for all concerned. Poor pup still has a cough and inflamed throat.

Poor wee thing! Could happen so easily too with a playful pup.

You have to be careful with toddlers also as they put anything in their mouths.

They are insanely dangerous to children and animals.

Tbh if you have children or animals in the home, the safest thing to do by far is just not to buy them. We stopped buying them when I was pregnant for the first time for this reason. The injuries small children get from them are horrific.

I’ve gone back to powder as it seems safer - and comes in cardboard boxes. The only trouble is I keep spilling it on the floor!

Try using liquid Nfk

I had moved to liquid but am trying to make an effort to avoid plastic. I haven’t spilt any now I’m further down the packet - and I’m getting more practice!

Poor little pup.I have never liked the idea of the luiqitabs for this reason.Also trying to avoid plastic here too.So have gone back to a box of washing powder .Do have the odd spill but then my mop and utility room floor gets a good clean !
It's been bugging me for ages that so many of the bottles of liquid come with a wash ball.There must be millions of the things and who needs one every time you buy more liquid? Also back to powder in a box for the dishwasher,which I keep in a sturdy Tupperware with an old spoon to pop in dispenser. to stop little fingers getting into it and so it doesn't go soggy.

Yes! They need to stop giving out those plastic wash balls.

The liquitabs are more harmful to the environment than powder and more expensive too - you are paying for a lot of water and plastic - and are bad for the washing machine. Almat washing powder from Aldi - big box £2.99 lasts for ages.

I keep my washing machine tabs by the sink out of the way of pets and grandchild. I picked one out of the tub one evening and it must have got a little wet as it was attached to another. As I separated the tub mates, the tab shot a stream of liquid straight in the face of the 2 month old kitten. The poor little thing had to be held under a very slow running tap for 10 minutes. She survived quite happily, but she does have a tendency to wait until I drop off to sleep, then sneak under the duvet and bite my toes. Not sure if she still holds a grudge.

I've had that happen with dishwasher liquitabs Lyndylou, but without incident happily. I stopped buying them because I was getting fed up with wasting so many when they stuck together.
Having read this, though, there is no way I would go back to buying them .
I do hope the little pup continues to improve Katek, what a terrible fright that must have been.

Does anyone know what liquid is used in tabs and liquid soaps? It isn’t palm oil by any chance is it?

This OP has got me re-thinking my use of these washing tablets. Mine are kept in a cupboard in the Utility, which has a child safety gate across it to protect the dogs and the toddlers from each other.
The environmental issues are the biggest. Off to google and return to powder. Thanks, another Gransnet goody.

I’ve moved to a liquid washing ‘powder’ that’s not tested on animals and comes in plastic bottle which has been made from recycled materials.

Method. I use the lavender one. Been using it for a year now and very happy with it. I think it’s actual name is Method liquid laundry detergent or something like that.
