Out of state grandchildren

I’m sorry you are feeling so hurt, but it’s really up to your adult children to decide when their children should open their Christmas gifts. You have to respect their parenting choices.
We never open Christmas presents before Christmas Day.
I do know what it’s like having grandchildren far away. 3 of mine live in the USA and I live in Britain, so although we have sometimes spent Christmas with them, most years we don’t see them.

The only thing you can do is to cover up your hurt and wish them well. In the longer term you do need to maintain a good relationship with your AC. Ask them to video the GC opening your gifts and send to you. Phone them on Christmas morning to let them know that you are thinking of them and perhaps plan a visit in the new year? Best wishes

Can you use FaceTime or Skype to enjoy seeing your GC with their presents from you?

Sorry you feel hurt. Our granddaughter is 18 and we have never seen her open her Christmas or birthday presents. She is always up with the lark to open them and we are in our own home. We see her later in the day.

I would definitely be using Face time.
I've never been with my GC on Christmas morning.

“Hurt and heartbroken” seems a rather extreme reaction to what I would regard as a slight disappointment. A lot of us here have grandchildren who live in other countries and only see them open presents by video link.
We always waited till Christmas Day to open presents, and as others have said, it’s the parents decision.

Does it matter if you don't see your grandchildren open their presents? I know for a fact my grandparents never saw me open mine and I doubt they wished to do so, although I know they loved me. I admit things have changed since the 1950's.

Our DGC have presents from Santa, of course, but know that the presents we buy come from us. We only see them open them though if they're at ours on Christmas Day. They don't open any presents before the day itself (why would they? ) and I've never thought it was a problem.

Why are you even expecting your grand children to open presents early, even though you want to see them do it. Christmas presents are not opened before Christmas morning. End of.

I only see my DGC open their presents every other Christmas when they are with me. We visit every 'away' year just before Christmas to deliver the presents, but I would be horrified if it was suggested that they should be opened ahead of the Great Day just so we could see their pleasure.
