Wild fires in California

I have been worried for a few days over the fate of Northern California and my dear friends who live in Magalia near Paradise. They evacuated up to the mountains were they have a summer cabin. Their daughter lives by Paradise and feared her house would be lost. The TV film's are frightening as the fire is so fast and unstoppable.

I heard today that Magalia is safe so they are ok. Only two houses remained in her daughter's area. Her house is safe but her mother in law has lost her house to the fire. What a dreadful natural disaster they are living through with so many lives and homes lost. Just wanted to share with others.

Patty was my penfriend from school days, over 50 years ago and she and her husband visited for the first time this Spring. We have never met before.

This is a thoroughly devastating disaster. I've kept watching the news and looked in horror at what remains of people's homes. I would be beside myself. Fire is the most terrifying and dangerous of disasters as I've witnessed bush fires in Australia and have stood brokenhearted in the aftermath at charred remains of wildlife to say nothing of the whole altered and scorched area where trees and greenery once grew.

I dread the next couple of months in Australia as the fires always seem so close to where my D and family live with so many trees around them.

Those rescuers and their dogs are really something else. Wonderful people who looking through all the debris and remains of homes don't know if they're going to find human remains. God bless them all. I wouldn't be able to function through the tears.
