How Observant are You?

Rufus you are not alone I could no more tell you what anyone I m with is wearing than fly to the moon and back I am extremely unobservant as was my Dad. My Mum would know what everyone was wearing even down to jewellery I‘ve heard her say to dad, did you see that ring she was wearing and my dad answer vaguely ‘what ring’ well that’s me
The other week as me and my youngest granddaughter walked down the street we passed a lady and we all looked at each other smiled and nodded as we got past my granddaughter said to me she had a funny finger on her right hand didnt she ...... I hadn’t even noticed she had a hand let alone a funny finger

Rufus I am forever approaching strange men in the supermarket because they look just like my husband! It never ceases to amaze me how many old(er) men wear khaki shorts and T-shirts ... and that's with me knowing what he is wearing .

Reminded of small children grabbing a pair of jeans and discovering it is not Mum!

Don't know if I'm observant but am more so than DH. When he was assaulted in a car park I describer the perpetrator and his car but DH had a totally different description. When the police found him he was just as I had described! We often disagree about the colour of something so clearly see things differently.

I like to think I am a trained observer as a nurse but I do lose things like cars.

I have been seperated from DH and seen a man who looks like him wearing a red top and navy trousers for instance which is an outfit DH posseses. I then head towards the man before remembering/realising DH was wearing green top and black trousers that day.

Slightly different but I walked past x no 2 at my Mothers funeral last month.
I was met by DS2 and his wife was talking to a well dressed grey haired man, I actually thought it was her father.
I walked up and introduced my self to have DS hissing in my ear,"it's my Dad'.
I apologised but did point out the only time I had seen him in anything other than flared jeans and tie dyed T shirts with shoulder length hair was at our wedding nearly 40 years ago.
Have to say he has worn quite well.

I always thought I was very observant but I failed to notice when DS shaved off his beard.

I am still chuckling at the memory of DH going round an old windmill and approaching a woman he took to be me and wrapping his arms round her. There was a startled squawk, and he back off in horror from a complete stranger!

This is actually a very important issue. I will make an effort to remember these things more, starting today.

I DO notice what people are wearing, and sometimes find myself studying it quite intently. But then I realise I haven't been paying attention to what they are saying. And when I walk away I forget what they were wearing. Remembering both would definitely be a simple exercise to keep the mind active.

DH always wears the same colour clothes, navy or black.
The number of times I have come up behind a man in a supermarket, and spoken to his back whilst dropping items into his trolley, so embarrassing

I am always looking round for DH, my eye scanning the crowds for a red T shirt and black jeans - then he ambles up in his black T shirt and red jeans.

I am not very observant at all. It always amazes me when someone is asked in a police programme for example " did you see that red car parked there two weeks ago " I would not have the faintest idea.

I find it difficult when someone is in the wrong place. I think we pigeonhole people and when they pop up somewhere else we don't recognise them. Some years ago I kept seeing a woman at the gym and vaguely thought I knew her. It was only when I went to parents' evening that she and I recognised each other, she was my son's history teacher. We laughed about it but my 13 year old son was just so embarrassed that his mother and teacher had met wearing lycra!

Oh yes! Was at the RSC a week or so ago. We went for a drink at the interval and I needed the loo. So said I’d see them back at the seats.

Could I remember where we were seated? Luckily my SiL spotted me hovering and waved and I just managed with a split second to spare and having to ask everyone on the row to stand up just as the second half of The Scottish Play was starting.

Half a century ago, as the proud owner of a new red Hillman Imp, I drove my mum to the shops. I went to one and she went to another. When I came out, I found her trying to break into a red Ford Anglia.

I have no idea about detail so am useless at describing people. Knowing this, many years ago I witnessed a robbery occurring at a nearby shop, from the window of my flat. I watched carefully and tried to remember what the two men looked like. When the police arrived I still couldn't describe them.

I don't usually notice things like beards, moustaches, glasses, long or short hair or hair colour. On the other hand if a stranger told me a fact about their life I would remember it forever (even if I didn't remember their name!!) I guess brains are configured differently!

OldMeg; You're confusing me. Do you mean "would" or "wouldn't"? I'm beginning to have delusions that I can read Maw like a book, even though I don't have a Kindle, but then I come to!
FYI; as promised, I've emailed HQ requesting 2 additional dedicated forums for "Jokes" and "Humour". I explained the difference. They didn't say "yes" and they didn't say "no", but they'll consider it. Stand by for further action!
