Threatened with all my contacts being sent porn ...supposedly that I've downloaded .....lol.Well seen the clown doesn't know me .Porn is a definate no in my life .
Anyway what to do? I've put a msg out to all my FB friends telling them to delete ant E-mails from me and I've printed out the threatening e-mail....it says no point in taking this to the cops as its untraceable .He/she has demanded £7000 to stop the e'mails being sent so I suppose its blackmail .My instinct is to ignore it ,my friends know that I've been hacked and wont open the e-mails but should I contact the police too? Do they take this sort of rubbish seriously ?
I'm just glad I'm not a frail old soul who would panic and make myself ill over this .Opinions welcome .

There are so many of these I doubt that police would have the resources to look into it. I would delete and forget if it were me.

If you can be bothered I think you should report this, if not to the Police then certainly to Facebook. It will give them something worthwhile to do instead of harassing and taking down perfectly legitimate Nationalist sites.

I think you should take this to the Police paddyann Threats, blackmail are taken very seriously !

Report it to the police - the hackers say they can't be traced but you would be surprised at what the police can do.

paddyann, I had this one about three weeks ago via a Tiscali email account and it is unpleasant. I ran the headers through www.iptrackeronline.com and it appeared to originate in South Korea, although I'm not convinced as much effort had been made to disguise the origin. I also forwarded the mail, with its headers, to SpamCop ( www.spamcop.net ) who are pretty good at tracking these scum and getting them shut down.
After that, I deleted the mail and forgot all about it until now. I'd suggest you do the same. Nastily worded as it is, it's still just a try-on.

paddyann Thu 02-Aug-18 15:13:34

Thanks Scribbles I'll forward it as suggested .I've changed my passwords and tightened security ,sadly these scammers seem able to still get through .

I deleted my Facebook account as soon as I discovered that I'd been hacked. It was fairly innocent, but many of my FB friends were sent videos supposedly from me that I didn't send. I took fright and perhaps it was a knee jerk reaction, but I really haven't missed FB at all.

paddyann Thu 02-Aug-18 16:11:31

Scibbles the spamcop address wont work ,maybe its blocked by the e-mail?

Jalima1108 Thu 02-Aug-18 16:15:51

I think as they are demanding money then it may be worthwhile reporting it to the police paddyann - it could help them build up a file if this is an increasing menace. It will also give you a crime reference number just in case anything further should arise from this.

It's horrible, isn't it - but I think I would delete your account and change passwords on everything.

I think it is important you report it to the police, how can they stop this sort of thing if they don't know about it. You have informed all the people you know and I hope changed passwords for your bank etc. Of course it could be a try on but you will never know. Pretty sure you could leave GN and then come back with a different name and password too.

Pretty sure you could leave GN and then come back with a different name and password too.
You can come back with a similar name as I did when my email account was compromised.

I ve been hacked twice but never blackmailed When I was hacked I just warned all my friends with a message on my page and changed my password nothing went any further and it all came to halt by the next day
I think the police have a dedicated line for scams and internet fraud and stuff

Bluegal Thu 02-Aug-18 17:46:43

I would do all. report it to Facebook, change password and ignore it!

BBbevan Thu 02-Aug-18 18:08:34

I had one of those paddyann After the initial shock, I deleted it and never heard another word

NanTheWiser Thu 02-Aug-18 18:14:06

This is the latest phishing scam - "sextortion". It's been well-reported in the national press in the last week or two, and as with all these scams, best to ignore and delete. There is also advice to forward it to Action Fraud, which seems to be the best advice so far.

kittylester Thu 02-Aug-18 18:17:49

You definitely should report it to the police.

I attended a talk yesterday on scams and it appears, because people don't report on line scams, that there seems to be a very low incidence so there is less funding for tackling it. It makes sense to report so that the police know about it and that you become, if nothing else, a statistic to boost the numbers.

POGS Thu 02-Aug-18 20:45:13

That is unnerving paddyann and I would contact the police , just in case.

B----s aren't they!

jenpax Thu 02-Aug-18 21:08:11

Report it to Action for fraud, blackmail is a serious crime and the police have IT units for just this sort of thing

Scribbles Thu 02-Aug-18 22:18:45

I don’t know what the problem is with Spamcop, paddyann. I’ve just been into it and it seems fine from here so maybe your supposition is correct. These hackers are getting too clever by half.angry

Granny23 Fri 03-Aug-18 16:57:18

A warning about this particular scam is in this week's local paper. It advises reporting to Action Fraud.

Jalima1108 Fri 03-Aug-18 23:04:34

We've just had a message left on our answerphone telling us that we have a lawsuit pending and that we owe a lot of money. It was a 'computerised' voice and left a phone number for us to ring immediately. hmm
I suppose if we phoned this number the charge would be extortionate.
Some people could be very frightened by this kind of thing.

I get the HRMC call every few days ,its just as well that we know our accountant is meticulous about paying our tax etc.Someone who isn't so aware of their finances would be very scared after these calls.Life used to be so much simpler before all these online/telephone scams .
