Thank you for your suggestions.I will remember the cat crunchies for next time, but he is too cute for the roller and bucket. Now, if he was a rat.
He is out. Cat was locked upstairs. Human barricade at stairs. We managed to get vole into hall, limited furniture, and with help of feather duster managed to persuade him through open door.

Did you tickle him until he ran out?

Well at least he didn’t tickle my feet or run up my skirt.

They're very sweet, voles. My cat used to fetch them in and let them go.
Apparently they don't taste too good.. hence the cat giving them up so easily.

A cardboard tube or a hoover tube can often entice them out of their hidey hole. Obviously, you need to block one end so that they don't run straight out again! I've often used that method and it seems to work. I think they feel safe in the tube.

Once they're in the tube you just pop it outside and leave it until the mouse/vole decides to leave.
