Heat!

I have to admit that I do like this weather and spend as much time as possible outside abet it is always a shaded area.
The temperature really doesn't bother me as it was so much higher when we lived abroad and I became acclimatised to it after a few years.
Rosina a good tip to keep your body cool is to run your wrists under cold water for few minutes and it will cool your blood it always works well for me if I ever became overheated.

Not on your own Rosina, I don't cope well in heat either. It doesn't help that I work in an office with no air con, have full length windows and I broil from 1 o'clock until hometime. I'm longing for the cooler weather and some rain for the garden.

Me too Rosina other people don't understand how enervating it is. I spend most of the time indoors with the fan on. When I get invited to outdoor events I have to tactfully refuse
as I can't tolerate long periods outside. I got worse post menopause.

Just loving it. However I must admit that apart from a game of tennis this am. I haven’t done much except sit in the shade.?

Too hot for me

Our most treasured possession is a large ceiling fan over the bed, it cost about £50 and even in this heat it ensures a good nights sleep.

Very concerned that young GD is doing her Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award on Thursday and a Thursday night, groups of 7 doing Coastal walks with nowhere to get water, no adults to go to if they feel effects of heat stroke, DD has asked the organisers to change the date, so far no reply.
As there is an Amber warning in the South West Let’s hope common sense kicks in.

Thanks for the tip glammanana - I will try that, and also try to stay sane. I keep telling myself it's only for two months or so at worst, but even that thought makes me want to get into the fridge and shut the door.

Love it!! Bring on the heat. I think I was born in the wrong country.

Half fill a hot water bottle with cold water and put it in the freezer at breakfast time. Half an hour before bedtime, put it in your bed and the sheets will be beautifully cool when you get in. (I keep the bottle with me all night, nestled up against the small of my back and it really does help me to sleep better on a warm & much night).

I love it. It's easy to sort the day around the weather by getting up early to water the vegetables and deal with washing/hoovering etc. We eat a late breakfast then potter about or go out.

If it's too hot to be outside we have a salad lunch and watch a bit of daytime telly. Later on I sort out what we're having for dinner then it's back outside to water the main garden and maybe sit outside for a G&T.

If only I didn't have to work!

My office is up under the eaves of a barn conversion, only window is a velux one in the ceiling. No through draft, hot and airless.

You ladies that can languish in the garden should consider yourselves lucky, I will be working for another 6 years, even thought I will be 60 in August (and btw, how the hell did that happen? )

I don't have problems now but I empathize with phoenix when working as a vet's assistant we couldn't open any windows due to possible escaping clients !
We had a small desktop fan on reception desk and that was it.

Would that be the owners when they see the bill, nina?

Good idea with your frozen bottle Scribbles . Also you can stand the bottle in front of a fan and instant air con !!

I love it!!

But even this heat does not keep OH warm. The first things he asked for this morning were for the bedroom windows to be shut and a hot water bottle!!!!

Thanks for all the good ideas to keep cool, Gransnetters. Today is just right at the moment - the sun is out and there is a cool breeze blowing through the house. I need to go out later - here's hoping the day won't turn into another 'scorcher' as the newspapers love to call them! I hope you get some sensible changes for your GD, oopsadaisy; my DS did the D of E course and it is a real challenge, as it should be, but worrying if your loved one is doing it in what you feel might be less than safe conditions.
Thanks also to sodapop. I had always thought 'enervating' meant uplifting and encouraging . Puzzled by the comment I looked it up and - oh dear. I have been using that word here and there in completely the wrong way. Never too old to learn! Perhaps I'll have a punt at accurate typing next!

Saddleworth moor could do with a bit of rain at the moment!

I had the daft idea to trim back some shrubs in the front garden as there was a nice cool breeze so off I went. Well the breeze vanished after about 20 minutes but as I'd started I had to finish, absolutely baking by the time I'd completed the task. I don't like this heat at the best of times.
Roll on the weekend and the forecasters will hopefully be right for a change, they say some rain around.

I've just planted some marigolds and it's unbearable in the garden. SO hot, even with a little breeze blowing. I'm not venturing out there again today.
I do wish it would rain, - mainly for Saddleworth Moor firefighters, and also for our gardens.

Last winter, freezing in the snow, I promised I would never ever moan about being too hot again. Whoops - that didn’t last long! I just can’t seem to tolerate being too hot or too cold. I need to move somewhere that has spring-like temperatures I think!

Im loving it. It's too hot for me to sit out in but I'm just back from a lovely dog walk, in the shade, along the river. Dogs had a swim then a brief walk back to the car, hosed down with the outside hose pipe, so no cleaning of downstairs shower needed. I'm watering the garden because I expect a hose pipe ban any minute.
The house is deteriorating alongside which, the garden has been getting lots of attention.
I know the heat is difficult for some and as I said it's much too hot for me to sit in, unless I'm under the shade. I am enjoying it though, especially after so many awful summers. Interesting country aren't we? We have such varied weather, we aren't prepared for anything even slightly extreme and we talk about it all the time.
I do hope we have a proper winter, with lots of ice and snow

Yes bikergran & henetha Those fire fighters and helpers must be exhausted at Saddleworth let's hope they get it under control soon.
