I've never liked alcohol-can't even stand the smell of beer/lager. Am quite envious of folks who can enjoy a good glass of wine/G&T while I sit there with pop. I now have it in a wine glass and not a tumbler with a straw! So, apart from any excesses, I'm not agin enjoying a drink BUT. . .
recently on family holiday at a pub meal (8 of us-6 adults, 2 children) when drinks were ordered on arrival I left the table discreetly and paid for them so they wouldn't go on the bill-£23. As it was a busy place, a second round was ordered and I managed to do the same. When the food bill arrived, about £100, DH and SIL split the bill 50/50. So I'm flabbergasted at how much the drinks bill was in relation to the food. There were soft drinks for the children, wine and beer for adults. Even DH had a soft drink. I trained our children to only have tap water when out for a meal. When I suggested this to young adult DGC (not when we were actually at the meal!) they thought I was mad! So the total bill was about £150; £50 of which was just drinks.
