refresher driving courses

I’m in the same position as you, Fennel. A good avenue to explore. I’ll be looking at that, or something similar when finally settled in our new home.

After my dad died we paid for mum to go out with a local instructor as she'd lost her confidence. Unfortunately she never took it up again and sold the car but I think that was her more than the instructor.

They sound an excellent idea. I wish DDiL would do one and take the pressure of DS on long journeys.

I think there is an assessment that can be taken by over 70s. Which I though would be good. I'll try to find a link.

Otherwise, why not pay for some lessons with a reputable instructor. A couple of sessions should do it I think.

One of my SiLs told me it's time to stop - "keep death off the roads" - very rude!
But I don't want to yet.

Someone on another forum had lost confidence in her driving as her hubby used to drive everywhere, when he died she decided to have a few driving lessons. Her instructor told her that the actual driving was fine and she just needed time on the road. I think she had about 4 sessions and then drove around the quieter roads on her own a few times.

Fennel, I have enquired about "confidence booster" lessons, as I am the sole driver now in the family and will be driving on a regular basis. So go for it, if I can do it anyone can.

Yes, I did a refresher course after a long period of not driving. It did make a big difference and I was glad that I went for it. I'm now the sole driver because DH has glaucoma - I've become quite a "happy driver" where before I was very hesitant.

Good news - thanks to all, I'm definitely going to do it.
Just hope the teacher doesn't say I'm afraid you're past it!
