As an English expatriate having lived in Melbourne for 47 years, I was thrilled to hear we have a new Prince, as yet un-named. grin

Sixth in line, eh! The queue's getting longer by the day and will (soon?) be even longer when Harry and Merkel start doing their stuff. wink
Poor Harry; bumped out of 6th. spot. sad
Just wonder how long the new one will have to wait before ascending the throne?

Realising I'm not immortal (after all), I'll have to miss that one. smile
As a loyal subject, I bow my knee and wish them all well. grin
So long as they promise to displace TV coverage of the forthcoming Aussie Rules football season. Awful!. grin

Incidentally, were any Gransnetters present in the welcoming crowd outside the hospital when the new Prince emerged?
I'd love to read postings about their experiences; how they felt, etc.

The media down here are going to "go bananas" for months , if not years. Talk about TV coverage, waiting breathlessly for his first smile, first burp, first this and that! smile
Waiting for the next bulletin.!
Good Health

I thought the new one was fifth in line
Her name is Meghan where’s some respect

Humbertbear Tue 24-Apr-18 08:01:10

Why respect? At the moment she is an actress who needs to earn our respect.

BlueBelle Tue 24-Apr-18 08:06:21

Totally disrespdpectful to call her Merkel I doubt anyone said Prince Charles and Spencer or Prince William and Middleton

Elegran Tue 24-Apr-18 08:12:48

Every bride deserves to have her name quoted right and not be confused with a completely different person. What if the marrying priest got it wrong and Harry were to find himself married to Angela Merkel, and Meghan found herself presiding over German politicians and making speeches to the EU?

MawBroon Tue 24-Apr-18 08:25:10

Why should an actress not be entitled to respect in her own right, Humbertbear?
We don’t talk about Dench, Mirren, or Smith do we? confused

annsixty Tue 24-Apr-18 08:28:35

I'm sad to say but the more I see of Meghan, the more I think she is playing a part.
I do hope not for Harry's sake.

Nannylovesshopping Tue 24-Apr-18 08:41:37

I like the look of Megan, maybe the fact that she is very confident grates on some, Harry certainly looks extremely happy, what’s not to like? Love her sense of style, hope being “royal” doesn’t turn her frumpish, doubt it haha ?

Teetime Tue 24-Apr-18 08:52:40

annsixty you have voiced my sneaky suspicion. She probably just needs time to adjust. I do think she needs to find her own style and that may take a bit of time and some not so good outfits.

Grandma70s Tue 24-Apr-18 08:54:17

I must say I don’t take to Meghan. Beautiful, yes, but slightly vulgar, too showbizzy. I understand that Harry’s in love with her, but if it lasts a lifetime I’ll be very surprised.

Anniebach Tue 24-Apr-18 09:10:08

With you Annsixty , I think the same

merlotgran Tue 24-Apr-18 09:12:06

Every time I see Meghan Markle I see a modern day Wallis Simpson.

Not that it matters a jot.

Wonderful news for Kate and William, an uncomplicated birth and a healthy baby to join their family.

Who could have imagined when they were born, that one of Charles's sons would marry a young woman he met at university. The other would marry a young woman who had been divorced, is of dual heritage, has an established career in acting as well as being recognised as a woman involved in humanitarian issues. Watching Harry and Meghan arrive at the service to commemorate the death of Steven Lawrence was moving imo. A young woman whose is of white US and black slave ancestry marrying into the British royal family - reflects the way life is changing for the better.

annodomini Tue 24-Apr-18 09:18:49

Well said, Iam. I was going to write something similar and now you have done it for me. I somehow think that Diana would have got on well with Meghan.

Nannylovesshopping Tue 24-Apr-18 09:21:35

Iam64 exactly, and very well said from me toosmile

merlotgran Tue 24-Apr-18 09:33:29

I'm scratching my head over whether or not Diana would have really got on with a successful confident, glamorous, touchy feely American actress? hmm

gillybob Tue 24-Apr-18 09:38:47

Is it just me who thinks it was very convenient that the baby was born on St George’s day ? My cynical mind wonders if it was part of the grand plan? hmm

Mapleleaf Tue 24-Apr-18 10:11:17

confused gillybob

Rufus2 Tue 24-Apr-18 10:26:14

BlueBelle; Sorry! I've obviously upset you, and as an Englishman and a Gentleman I sincerely apologise. sad
I said I was on bended knee so expect the Royal Sword to smite anytime now. Even St. George might come after me. shock
My source of lineage info obviously can't count and my descriptor, "Merkel" might be due to a misplaced subliminal between Windsor and Germany.
No disrespect was intended. It won't happen again. Promise!hmm
Please feel free to correct any other errors you may stumble across. smile
For now I'll pull .my head in and disappear down my bolt-hole!

gillybob, only if it was c section, tbf I couldn't care less I was more excited when my grandchildren were born

Theoddbird Tue 24-Apr-18 10:31:24

Iam 64 well said. I have to say that as a very patriotic English woman I was very happy when one of my grandchildren was born on St George's Day....

Teddy123 Tue 24-Apr-18 10:33:12

I confess to not being particularly interested in the latest addition apart from "oh a healthy baby boy, nice".
What I did find interesting was the documentary on Camilla, my thoughts being "lovely natural lady".
Meghan ..... Wish she would stop constantly fiddling with her hair and just shove those long bits behind her ears and leave them there! I share her hair fiddling habit and am determined to stop!

MagicWand Tue 24-Apr-18 10:36:56

If Meghan's playing a part, good for her! I thought from the start that being an actress may be very useful in her new life.

If she can keep the part she needs to play in the public eye separate from the person she really is; the person that Harry fell for; a person we do not see or know; then that may be one of the best ways of coping with the pressure younger members of the royal family are put under.

Leah50 Tue 24-Apr-18 10:40:50

I was fascinated to see that Duchess Kate was wearing high heels just hours after the birth of the new Prince. I had easy natural births with my babies...but my legs were pretty wobbly for a while!

gillybob Tue 24-Apr-18 10:47:04

I was thinking more of her being induced at home ( she did apparently have a team of 20+ ) then a swift dash to her “wing” and Bob’s your uncle or Alberts your prince. wink
