I remember losing my temper when trying to teach my daughter how to play 'patience'.

Because it is a labour of love, Lucky! Something I used to enjoy doing for GS before he gave it up. Sometimes the biggest problem was working out where to put them! Thank goodness for t’internet! When my GS, who absolutely hates walking, presented his ‘Hikes Away’ badge to be sewn on I asked him if they had had to hold a gun to his head!

Is This Irony too??? Your post made 'Top Threads' in todays Gransnet email but I had to smile when reading the post above yours which was about spending a whole lesson at school learning to iron pillowcases.

As a teen my daughter did the most delicate cross stitch. Now she brings me all her sewing repairs as she says she can't sew!

annodomini, that is only for attaching the glueing badge. As it happens DH has given me 3 pairs of trousers to turn up, so wish I had been to Brownies

Yes, why are you doing this? I remember the first time I insisted that DS sew on his own badge when in Scouts. A big sulk ensued but he did it. Then he did all the rest without fuss. It's called "tough love"!!

When I first went to University I quickly acquired a boyfriend. It didn't last long, we had been together about 10 days when he asked me whether I would sew his (navy) badge on his (navy) blazer. I looked at him and said 'White thread or brown?'

Taking up trousers reminds me of a time when I had to take about 2inches off my DS trousers. I duly unpicked the old hem , cut off the appropriate amount and sewed the hems. When I got DS to try them on, I found that I had taken one leg up twice!!
Ruined a perfectly god and expensive (for me) pair of trousers.
I’ve never been allowed to forget it either!
