I am doing my first coach trip next month on my own.OH doesn't do holidays or outings. I am looking forward to it but my main concern is eating on my own. Some of you seasoned travellers may be able to tell me what to do. Do I just sit at an empty table in the hope that someone else will join me or do other travellers generally invite single people to join them?

If you're staying with the coach party at a hotel tables are often arranged in fours and sixes and often you are given a table number to sit at. So it's all sorted for you.
Otherwise I just look for a space on the first night and ask if it's free.
Honestly it's never been a problem and I've met some very interesting people.
I really hope you enjoy it!

I always have something to read if I'm dining alone. Once you share a table the need for reading material usually disappears smile

I agree that coach tours usually allocate people to a table - so you're very unlikely to be seated at a table alone.
When I'm out and about alone I always take something to read, but I also don't mind asking, or being asked, to share a table.

I've just realised how much bolder I am as an older woman than I was in my younger days. grin

I ve never been on a coach holiday ( don’t like coach travel) but I have holidayed on my own and I did find eating the evening meal alone the only bit I didn’t enjoy I did take a book and got through it that way but I also got the unwanted attention of a bloke in a topless sports car who wanted to take me to see the sunset I declined pretending I had to pack for leaving the next day ( which I wasn’t) but it’s all that came into my head

In a previous job I often travelled alone on business, and would have to eat alone. I never found it a problem, would always sit facing the room, and take a newspaper (usually do the crossword!)

As others have said, on an organised coach tour, you are very unlikely to find yourself alone at meal times.

I used to travel alone for business. I always faced the room and people watched. I always felt reading as I eat made me look a real billy no-mates. Watching everything happening round me was much more fun.

My absolute luxury was ordering breakfast in my room. Sitting there, in my bathrobe, with fresh coffee, fruit juice and bread rolls and the newspaper. A little of oasis of quiet before the rush of the day.

Im going on holiday alone. What shall i do if they sit me with people i dont like. Iheard tales that they put men with women. I dont like that idea.

Are you joking ethelbags1 ?

travels take your Kindle or a crossword book just in case, but it’s not likely you will be on your own at a table.
Have never done coach tour holidays, but friends do and say they usually seat six together for meals.

Ethel there are usually more women than men on a coach tour , I have been on a few by myself but was always told what table to sit at on the first night , after that you could sit at that table or find another if you wanted

Do you avoid men in all walks of life? It must be very difficult to lead a normal life sad
