Does anyone have such strong images from childhood and early life stuck in their head.
I left my home town when I was 21 to move five hours drive away. I have never lived there since.
Yet I still think that the town I was born in is exactly the same and that my Grandmother is doing her daily mile long walk to the Indoor shopping Centre and the market.
A walk I did with her every day until I started school.
I can see her in my minds eye, headscarf on, "best foot forward".
My Grandmother is long dead and half the town has been knocked down and rebuilt with modern cinema and dining complexes. I drive through on occasion because my son owns a shop there.
My beloved Grandfather died when I was 27 and yet I still think he is sitting with his pipe, setting fire to his suit pockets by putting said pipe in pocket.
The images stay the same in my head.
I still think that everything I left behind is still there exactly the same.
Everyone is long dead and the house I was born in and grew up in is now a house of multiple occupancy , all the wonderful original features ripped out.
So I know the truth.
I have a feeling that I am waiting to go back to the old days thinking any minute it might happen and I get whisked back as an adult to do the same routines.
I was not particularly happy as a child a so rosy past is not the reason.
Does anyone else do anything similiar ?
Unbearable grief compounded by our adult children’s reactions
