Half term moan

Yes, I've found it difficult.
I looked at public transport to go places, but the weather has been so appalling.
We're going to the cinema tomorrow.

It has been extremely cold February.
Our half term is next week really hoping the temp goes up a few degrees and the wind chill goes down!

We had snow at begining of week and hail today.

DGS are outside boys
so there is no keeping them inside whatever the weather!
Its hats scarves and wellies then back to ours for drinking chocolate and cookies.

Our half term is next week AND the week after that . We have a shorter summer holiday so they say but they manage to extend it with inset days.
What a bad time of the year to have a two week break in this weather.

Yes, it’s been a bad weather week here too, but fortunately the day we had our DGS he enjoyed being inside the house and playing computer games.Having the younger DGC here tomorrow and have planned lots of games, puzzles, drawing books, with a few iPad games and a bit of CBeebies should get us through! ?

Why do children have to be entertained? I certainly wasn't and I was an only child for a greater part of my childhood. I found ways of entertaining myself. If I'd complained to my mam she'd have found me a job to do.

Being bored is part of the learning experience. You develop strategies to deal with it.

I agree with Vampirequeen. Children must learn to amuse and occupy themselves. ‘I’m bored’ was a phrase never allowed in our family and DDs have harried this on with theirs.
Stock phrase has always been , only boring people are bored. Get off your bum and find something to do.

Its boring being stuck indoors though, and the weather here has been atrocious.
A walk and some fresh air is what's needed.
We have some sunshine at last today.

We have ours next week for two days (but not consecutive). I hope it will be dry, but I have a few things planned in case it isn’t. What I am starting to worry about is Easter. We have him for five - possibly six - days as his parents are going away, and that has never happened before.

How about, reading, writing, colouring, crafting ( loads of ideas on Pinterest). Baking, making a simple meal, painting, puzzles. Make a fairy / miniature garden. Look up activities in local churches and libraries. The list is endless , no need for any child to be bored indoors or out.

It's really bad timing, but I have some sort of virus that's laid me low the past few days, so The Wonderful Man is living up to his name. He's taken the week off work and has been helping our son to put a new bathroom in - ably helped (!!!) by our daughter's two small boys and the dog. They're no doubt having the time of their lives; especially as my lovely daughter-in-law is a primary school teacher and has most likely found lots of fun activities for them to do when 'helping' palls.

Today we're finally going out into the fresh air. At long last the winds and rain have stopped!

Had my 6 yr old DGD three days, not consecutive, two on my own & one with OH. We've baked, coloured, made sticky pictures, spent a few hours in the library choosing funny books and reading to each other. We've done jigsaws, went briefly to the park when the sun came out, been food shopping for ingredients to make pizza, looked at a map of the world & found info about the places, taught her about the movement of the earth / day & night / seasons / tides etc. & taught her to knit.....phew!!! But she hasn't been bored once and even though it's exhausting I love being with her & passing on knowledge. Tomorrow it's a dry forecast so going to a local farm for lamb feeding & cuddling. Hope there's some ideas there for you.

I think allowing ones own children to be bored at times is fine, and then they do use their imaginations, but entertaining DGC is a bit different.If you more or less ignored them and got on with household chores, they wouldn't be all that keen to come and see you.

Nothing to do????
No books, paper, pens, paints, TOYS, games, television, computers, DVDs,music,cooking, crafts, friends?
They have exhausted all their presents from Christmas?
Are these children totally unable to entertain themselves?
And if so, why?

I have to agree with you lemongrove. I can remember taking my children to one set of grandparents where there was never anything to entertain them. They were so fed up that they really hated going. Wouldn't want my GD to feel that way about coming here so I go out of my way to make it fun when she's with me. As I said before, exhausting at the time but it's not 24/7 so it's not a problem for me.

Give them a table chairs and some sheets ( depending on their age it wouldn’t work for 13 +year olds??
Dressing up box if no special clothes, scarves sheets, beach sarongs etc work wonders my two cousins were here one day and spent literally hours making themselves as woman from all over the world with various scarf and sarong combinations they were about 10 /11
A big sheet of cardboard, paper or even back of wall paper and make an underwater or firest college, I had five round the table working on that and one was a lad
Cook with them (licking the bowl out of course)
If none of that works get them doing some work I used to love helping my Nan Brillo all her brass and make the beds in time to music
If you ve got more than one let them ‘entertain’ themselves using their imagination
