So last summer my daughter in I had a verbal altercation. Actually I was caught off guard. She has always been sugary sweet. I always said I couldn’t find a flaw.
My son and daughter In law we’re getting ready to move out of state. My sons in the military. I had been traveling back and forth helping with my grandchildren for months. To make a long story short. She called me vain. She said I need to watch what I say and how I say it. I’ve known her for over 10 years and I have never had a cross word. I was shocked. It was never resolved. There is a wall up. My son blames me for everything. I’m hurt and now I am distant. I have a lot of emotional baggage due to abusive childhood so when I sense rejection I automatically put up walls

What is it you are asking?

I'd ask her to her face what it was you said that triggered that response.

Good luck. Many of us on here have suffered from difficult DiLs and I don't think any of us have the answer.

Is she causing any problem to you? Or just a "wall"?

It seems a shame that this one incident mars a generally good relationship. Can you talk to her about it, try not to make a big issue of this comment.

Allcrimson you can sort this yourself by taking down those walls you have errected, forgetting any hurts, being careful what you say and how you say it and apologise too if that is what it takes. Shed some tears and kiss and make up! Life is too short to nurse hurts and you are in danger of cutting off your nose to spite your face. Your family is your everything so don't throw it away.
