Have just spent the last several hours in the Emergency Room of our local hospital, and it was absolutely heaving with people. DH and I arrived 10.40 am and I left finally at 4.00 pm. Eight days ago I slipped on some ice in the car park and went down on my left elbow, thought it was just very bad bruising, but today my fingers had gone very white and DH put his foot down and off we went. During that time I saw triage nurse, one doctor three times, radiographer twice, orthopaedic registrar once for very detailed exam and then plaster nurse twice. Every single one was so patient, apologetic for the time we waited and generally so very kind and helpful. We wondered do other countries offer so much and treat us without wanting to know if we were insured or could afford treatment. I have been told I will receive a telephone call in the next 48hours to discuss if I would like surgery to repair it or continue with an elbow cast. I know we moan about the NHS but I think the people who work there are absolutely marvellous. You also meet some lovely people whilst you are waiting
