Suddenly feel old

I saw the Stones in 1966 at the Albert Hall, where they were top of the bill but it was half a century ago. I've found people are envious that I saw them in their prime. (That was one of only two concerts I've ever been to.)

Me too Grandmamoira, 3 times in the 60s in Newcastle, when they used to do widespread touring. I wouldn't want to see them as they are now - not least because of the ridiculous prices for tickets!

When I first worked in Liverpool we would all go down to The Cavern to see all the groups playing there when we finished work,slowly but surely members of some of the top bands of the time have died including John Lennon & George Harrison along with Cilla,it certainly reminds you how old you are when you come to think of it.

I saw them at Walthamstow Assembly Hall I'm guessing 1963 when they'd just had a hit with 'Come On'. I was right next to the stage and marvelled at the slimness of Mick Jaggers hips (you can tell where I was looking). I also saw the Beatles in Finsbury Park Astoria around the same time. I just accept I'm ancient and the younger generation won't have a clue about things popular back then.

I saw them at Victoria palace in about 1963 when they had their first hit 'come on'. Whats more we were chatted up by them outside the theatre prior to the show. We gave them the heave ho as they were scruffy and long haired. We didnt know who they were until they appeared on stage. What a surprise'
Shows in those days had a number of groups/ singers on and the rolling stones were bottom of the bill. I had gone to see the everly brothers who were headlining. Oh i have dined out on the story of how i could have been lady jagger for many a long year.
Also saw the beatles at finsbury. Coukdnt hear a thing!

The Stones now look about 108, or as if they'd been long buried and dug up again. I don't think I want to think of them as "my generation", even though they are!

I saw them a few times in Birmingham in the '60s. If folks are still willing to pay and they enjoy what they're doing, why shouldn't they carry on?

I saw the Stones in very early 60s when they played a club I went to in Belsize Park. This was before Come On, I was about 16. I was right at the front, the stage was only about 18 inches high, and when Brian Jones turned his back to the audience and wiggled his bum I reached out and took his comb out of the back pocket of his jeans!

I saw them at the Il Rondo, a small scrubby club in the back streets of Leicester in the early 60s. Entrance cost the princely sum of 2/6. I wasn't impressed because you couldn't really dance to their music.
Fast forward 30 years my daughters paid a huge amount to see them on their Licks tour at Wembley Stadium.
I agree that there comes a time when some of these icons should hang up their guitars. Recently DD1 paid a lot to see Bob Dylan, she said it was such a disappointment, he could no longer hold a note and mumbled his way through unrecognisable songs.

I was walking up a local alley way the other day when a mother with two children on reins appeared coming the other way. She made the little ones stand still so that they didn't knock me over! I then realized that I must appear old and doddery to others! I always try to walk briskly and upright, although that particular alley is steep and almost brings me to a standstill sometimes. I went home feeling decidedly ancient.

I saw the Stones in 1964 in a hotel ballroom in my little home town none of my friends believe me (as the hotel has long gone) but I did plus Little Richard, the Searchers, Gerry and the pacemakers, Miguel 5, Freddie and the dreamers, hermans hermits I could go on and on all the best of the 60 s that were barely cooked just all starting out
What a wonderful era I still love 60 s music but I must admit they do all look a little worse for wear now I saw an old 60 s group recently at our local theatre and the saxophonist had to sit down to play ?

Shysal know what you mean. We travel into London quite a bit on the tube and often get offered a seat as it's usually standing room only. Very kind of course but brings it home to you.

I think our generation are so lucky to have been able to see all the great bands. I can honestly say I have seen most of the big bands/solo artists from 1962 (I was 12) onwards that I wanted to see live. Beatles, Stones ,Bowie. MJ, Queen, Springsteen, Stax tours- I could go on & on!!
My only regret is never seeing Marc Bolan before he died. I think I have seen everyone else that I wanted to. I would like to see Kaiser Chiefs one day.
I am very lucky & music is still my passion.

I saw the Stones at the East Ham Granada in about 1964. They were very good but I loved the showmanship of Chuck Berry who was their support act.

I too saw the Stones at Leyton Baths in the early sixties , I was actually on the side of the stage watching them as I knew one of the bouncers and he took me and my mate up there., and a few weeks previously I had turned up late to find a group called The Beatles playing, thought they were ok although I had never heard of them! Shame I never got autographs.

I used to go the the Free Trade Hall in Manchester almost every week, back in the 60s and early 70s and saw many of the bands and artists that are legendary now. A little while ago, a young colleague was telling me how much he liked the music of Marc Bolam "even though it's like, old stuff". When I told him that I'd seen Marc Bolam when he was in Tyrannosaurus Rex, long before they changed name to The Rex, he was ! He was clearly stunned that this old dinosaur a had ever been that young! Got me some kudos that day!

Anyone remember Russ Conway, the pianist off the Billy Cotton Band Show? I queued for ages to get his autograph on the Side Saddle record, I still have it!

We've missed seeing them.... so really anxious to catch them before any of us "pop off"....
don't care they ARE past their best... so are we!!

Personally I have always drawn comfort from the fact that, no matter how old I am, the bands I loved as a teenager will always be older than me!

Talking of Marc Bolan - last week was the 40th anniversary of his death; tomorrow would have been his 70th birthday

I saw the Stones in Hyde park in 1966 or 7..can't remember exactly....you know what they say, If you can't remember you must have been there!

Anyone else in Hyde Park July 1969 (W11girl) I was 16. I'll never forget it.
