New GBBO - I just dont know

Am still staying loyal to BBC at the mo and haven't succumbed to the temptation to watch yet! (Didn't find the idea of Noel Fielding appealing anyway...)

Have only watched half an episode. Sandy seems to fit in well but even though I like Noel he dosen't seem "right"

nina I agree - to my mind he lacks 'presence' and seems unconfident about interacting with many of the bakers unless it is scripted.

BUT overall , I think it is ok, Sandy has a lot of natural warmth and although I find Prue a bit more stand offish than Mary Berry, she is a good foil for that horrible Hollywood - just the advert breaks are so annoying, especially as the last one comes just before the final announcements!

Not even been tempted to watch. If it goes down the pan do you think the BBC will buy it back?

I wasn't sure either but find I do like it and am still enjoying watching. I record it so I can watch it the next day and fast forward the adverts

I'm struggling with it. Can't warm to Prue, Hollywood is more arrogant than ever and Sandy and Noel are no double act.

Switching over at 9pm means I haven't a clue who gets booted out.

S'alright I suppose. The reason I used to watch previous series was to pick up baking tips - I'm not learning anything on this so far - Mary used to explain the rationale behind the technical challenge. The lady who went this week was out of her depth with technical and artistic challenges.

I agree merlotgran , it seems so forced. And not very funny to be fair. I don't think they bring anything to the table.

I agree Teetime some of those bread creations did look a little odd.

I like it. I expected to be disappointed but I'm not. I do hate the adverts, though!

Teetime like you I used to watch to pick up baking tips.
Especially bread, which I make regularly.
I've been watching on youtube and as you expect from chanel 4 it's now more about personalities with a bit of sex thrown in.

More food porn on the telly....used to be slightly more foodie than porn........but smut crept in. Give me the garden porn anyday.

I record it so I can watch it later/next day and skip through the ads. Noel doesn't fit in at all, but I like Sandy.
Prue seems terribly posh, but ok-ish. I preferred Mary really. Paul is as up himself as ever, but I don't hate him.Just feel like sticking a pin in him to deflate him a bit.
All in all, it's ok. Not quite as good, but still watchable.
And I still love the Extra Slice with Jo Brand.

I'm with Radicalnan on the porn element if I'm understanding her correctly. Seems mandatory lately to make a big issue of any double entendre. Shoddy and unnecessary methinks. Also feel Prue has been channelled into the corrective headmistress role in these circumstances. I'm trying hard with the S/N combination as I really didn't know him at all. So far.....fair degree of indifference. I was a huge fan previously but haven't given up yet.

Didn't like it before-find Mel and Sue irritating and rather patronising so perhaps this version would be more appealing. I'll have to try it at least once.

We like it very much and the new Prue is fine. I love Sandi and like Noel. And apparently the next generation like it too as #1 daughter drew the person that left this week at the work draw, and she has to bake a bread for them all as it was bread week. She was asking for easy recipes as is a full-time working mum of two .

Honestly, I like all the new presenters, but what is putting me off are the ridiculous OTT creations they are expected to bake this year! Illusion cake? Fortune cookies? This is supposed to be the Great BRITISH Bakeoff. These are clearly inspired by the American Food Channel shows like Cake Wars etc. I am not interested in anything with mysterious shapes, food colourings etc. Can we get back to Bakewell Tarts and scones?

Am I the only one to like Noel? In Episode 3 he interacted with the bakers really well. I also think he is kind. In fact I like him better than Sandy. I think he was nervous at first, but they are now finding their feet. I like Prue as well, she is down to earth and honest. Nothing has changed as far as I am concerned. The ad breaks are annoying, but if you record it, you can skip through them.

Don't watch either BBC1 or Channel 4 "Bake off" programmes. Getting very bored with these shows. Didn't watch much of last year's "Bake off" either. Give me a good Gardening programme preferably with AT any day

Although I still like watching it I find it a bit flat this year - but that's because the bakers themselves aren't getting me on side. I think the show needs Paul Hollywood as a love to hate figure - and he does know what he's talking about with the technical side. I do miss Mary Berry, but quite like Noel and Sandy. The adverts are just irritating. I record and whizz through them.

I agree with Legs. I was already bored stiff with it three seasons ago. Mummy Mary, Irritating Mel and Sue with their juvenile innuendo and insufferably arrogant Paul H. Add to that endless shots of contestants kneeling on the floor peering into their ovens and I gave it the elbow.
Out of sheer curiosity I tried episode one of the Ch 4 version but within five minutes I'd turned it off. I do generally enjoy cooking shows but pick them carefully and Mary Berry's other shows are excellent for lovely recipes.
As Legs says though, give me a good garden show every time.

To be fair to Prue, I think Mary Berry was always going to be a hard act to follow. Paul H does explain why something hasn't worked but Prue could add ideas of her own and hasn't so far.

I'm going to carry on watching to see if Sandi & Noel "settle" into it more. I think better use could be made of them as non-bakers - eg asking "ignorant" questions to help non-bakers watching to understand more about baking processes.
They should be good at making jokes to lighten up the tense atmosphere. Mel and Sue were good at this but got on my nerves otherwise.
Like Lupin, I am not that interested in any of the competitors. Some of them seem to think they are better than they really are although I was sorry to see Flo go - she was a wonderful character.
